An Operation was Necessary.
Miss Jessie Robertson's life was saved
last Wednesday by an ocratlon for
appendicitis. Dr. Williams, of Adrian,
assisted by the home doctors, performed
the operation.
Fire Bell in Hose Tower.
On account of tho expense of moving
the fire alarm bell tower the council
has decided to put tho bell In the
hose tower and tear down the present
bell tower Instead of moving It, as was
at (list talked of.
School Millage.
At a meeting of the school board on
Monday evening the following millage
was laid: school .1 mills, bond 3) mills.
This Is a half mill higher than ll was
last year. Last year the inilluge was
school 3 mills, building 11 mills and

'Representative Bobbins has secured a
promise from the postofllce department
that a rural free delivery district will
bo established shortly in Jefferson coun
ty." Tho free delivery will bo highly
appreciated by tho people of Jefferson
county when it is established, however,
we will not blow about it until the
government keeps its promise.

Lawyer Camden Mitchell was work
ing on his farm Friday and bo fell on a
log and broke one of his left ribs. Ho
bus not been very frisky since tho acci

Face Badly Burned,
Scott Horm hud his face badly burned
and narrowly escaped having his eyes
blown out Monduy evening with pow

To-morrow, Thursduy, Juno 23rd, at
4.00 l M., Ernest C. Duvis, of Reynolds
villo, und Miss Maud M. Miller, of Wen
burg, Clarion Co., Pu., will be united in
marriage ut the bride's homo, In the
presence of a fow relatives und close
friends. Tho nuptial knot will bo tied
by Rev. J. Culvin Fusold. Miss Miller
is the lovely nnd accomplished daughter
of Charles E. Miller, Esq.,-a graduate
of the Clarion Normul, and is highly
esteemed by all who know her. Mr.
Duvis is considered one of Reynolds
vlllu's best young men. Miss Blanche
Duvis, sister of tho groom, and J. W.
Culbertsnn, of Kuox, will attend the
bappy couple. Miss Grace Harloy, of
Oil City, will pluy tho wedding march.
After a trip to Cory, Jamestown,
Niagara and other cities, Mr. and Mrs.
Duvis will return to Reynoldsvillo,
which will be their future home.
Had to Play Ten Innings.
The first came of ball on the Revn
oldsville grounds this season was tilnuoit
Thursday afternoon between the home
team and Huthmel s strong team. Our
bovs did not have an easy vletnpu
Both teams played good ball and were
so evenly matched that ton Innings had
to he played to decide the game. At
Hie ending or the ninth inning the score
was 4-4, but in the tonth Inning our
ooys iioumiea too rmll unmercifully and
got eight scores, and tho visitors got a
"goose egg," making the score 12-4 In
favor of the home team. A large crowd
witnessed tho game, but a very few of
the spectators occupied seats on the
grandstand. The ball ground Is not
fenced in and hence an admission fee
cannot be charged to see the games
played, but seals on the grand stand
cost ten cents for ladlesand fifteen cents
for gentlemen. Our club built tho
grand stand for the purisme of having
people pny for s als on it nnd by 'this
means hope to raise enough money to
pay the expense of having ball teams
come hero to play, hut If our people
don't patronize the grandstand better
hearafter than they did last Thursday,
there will not bo nianv frames nf hll
played on the Reynoldsvllle grounds
mis season.

Farmers' Parade.
Tho farmers' parade last Wednesday
forenoon was large and the stars and
stripes wore conspicuous us tho tillers
of the soil drove through town. King
& Co., of this place, had been selling
farming machines and Wednesday was
fixed as tho date for the delivery of the
machines, so our farmer friends drove
into town that morning, loaded the ma
chines on their wagons at A. V. R'y
station, formml in line and headed by
M. C. Coleman, on horseback, drovo up
Main street to King & Co's store, arriv
ing there at noon. The counters In
King fc Co's Inrgo drug store were
utilized for tables nnd tho fnrmers,
about forty in number, were given a
free dinner. There were to be speeches
mado after dinner, but the fnrmers woro
In a hurry to get home to work on their
farms in tho afternoon and tho speech
making was omitted. King & (Jo. de
livered twenty two mowers, one reaper,
ono hay rake, one binder and two tons
of phosphate that day. Nino machines
havo since been delivered and a number
of others ordered that the parties have
not come for yet.
Postmaster's Salary Increased.
On July 1st Postmaster Woodwurd's
salary will he increased 100.0(1 per year
und NIMl.oa will be allowed for clerk
hire, making un Increase of $:t0(l.0O for
tho office. At present tho salary is
$l,"ri)0, with at least $1(0.0 fees on
money orders making It $1,1100. Tho
Increase of $300.(10 makes it $1,000.(10
per year, out of which tho postmaster
jmys his help.
In March It wus stated In TitK Star
that the business of the postolllco hud
increased enough to entitle the post
master to an Increase in salary of $100.00
per year. Tho increase was granted on
tho rating of the office March 30th,

G. W. Fuller took a dose of laudanum
ut his homo neur Proscottvillu Friday
evening. Three or four Reynoldsvillo
physicians were summoned and a stom
ach pump was used on him soon after
ho hud tuken tho laudanum. Mr. Ful
ler's wife preferred charges against h'.m
Wednesday for assault and buttery. Ho
gave bull for his appearance ut court.
Game Yesterday.
A game of bull was pluved on the
grounds at, this place vestorduy between
a team of Du Hols' hest players and hotel
men or ucynoiusvillo. 1 no gume was
to have been oluved bv hotel men from
both towns, but tho DuBois hotel men
played by proxy. Of course tho Reyn
oldsvillo club wus defeated. The score
was 14-7.

A convention of the Baptist Young
People Union was held In the Baptist
church at this place last Thursday,
June 14th, beginning at 10.00 a. M.

Rev. W. L. Jenkins. "Winning Souls
for Christ," was the topic presented by
Mrs. A. Z. Myers. Rev. N. O. Patter
son opened the discussion on "Bible
Study and the B. Y. P. U."

The fifty-second anniversary of the
Clearfield Baptist Association was held
In the Reynoldsvillo Baptist church on
Friday and Saturday of lust week.
Eighteen chilrches were represented by
fifty-seven messengers. The reports
show membership in tho churches rep
resented to bo 1,702, with an Increase
by baptism of 323.

Mills. Rev. J. H. Palmer, of Sykes

sions was presented by Rev. N. O.
Patterson, of Jersey Shore, which elic
ited profitable discussion.
Mrs. F. G. Wheeler, of Chapel Car
fame, addressed the Association on tho
work of the Publication Society, report
ing briefly tho work accomplished by
the Societies' five chapel cars.
Friday evening Dr. F. S. Dohins deliv
ered ono of his Inimitable illustrated
lectures on missions In foreign lands.
