'"Not so," replies n noted man: "tin- favors you did us nearly twenty yours Ufjo art- as fresh to mo as if they v.i i-e di'tue yo.-tei-day. 1 distill them In tho alet'ibic of my memory, and they turn to osseiu-i-s." A beautiful reply, indeed: and how much of truth there Is in it! Surely all of us cherish certain kindnesses and courtesies and favors wo ' have received from friends and even strangers, years ae-o, and they form qulto apart of the pleasuresof memory. ' How often have wo heard tho expression, "I shall novel- forgot her kindness;" or, "I never hoar that enUemaii's name spoken hut T recall with pleasure his court to m-.." The frnrnnco of these (lowers of courtesy alwavs re mains. in many of tho churches over tho country to-day, and Ueynoldsvillo is no exception, tho front seats aro almost, if not all together, empty during: services. It would look better to have them all filled up first, and then if any empty onus remain, they should bo those at tho rear of the church. When peoplo nt- lenil an entertainment In tho opera houso or Centennial hall, the front part of tho buildings are lilled up flint. Tho young people of tho Christian Endeavor Societ ies and Kpworth League, could do much to improve tills in thoir respect ivo churches. If they would band them selves together to fill up all tho front seats ut tho next regular service of tho church, and continue It. It Is almost a rule for the young peoplo to take a scat about the oontur of tho audlonce-room, And from that point back to tho rear they fill in, making tho majority of tho audience occupy tho space in tho room, from the center rearward. Indeed, somo of tho older church member follow t!io same example or erhaps they have set this examplo for tho young. Nothing more quickly murks a young man us a gentleman than deference to the whims and habits of thoso past iriidd'o life. Tt is easier to look hack' ward than forward: and It may bo well to bear in mind that as peoplo have alv.ays buou iiuiuencod in old age by their early training, so will It be in tho future: and that the noxt generation will probably find tho young men of to day ''behlud tho times" in vury muny cases. Those who boast superiority as to mutiuei'j, mental endowment and physical strength, eun vory well afford to bo magnanimous in tholr judgment of others loss fortunate. Young mou, uiiovu ull others, should not kick a man who is down. On the contrary, It is tli j part of muuliood to help tho fallen, to provide out of our plenty, that the meager resources of others may be loss noticable. Hut If the old people cannot go so fust, can not bo lifted out of tho "ruts," can not learn tho "uow-funglod notions," thou moru's tho pity. The iHlToreueu may be mude less notublo, however, by generous conduct on tho part of those who can, if they will, con form to tho eccentricities of others. If grandmother uses "1" for "aro", It Is to bo borne In mind that It Is much more ditlicult for her to change tho habit of u half century than for a young muu to abuudou bis dally quota of cigarettes. If grandfather .uses his knife for his fork at tho table, young mum should remember that this Is a ' fault which is not comparable with the lniputlouo which will not permit them to overlook U. In Memoriatn. Mrs. Hebocca Iiwson Heed was born In Kittanning, Armstrong Co., Pa., on tho nineteenth of September, i!l, and died in Ilinnrshulg August twenty second, s!i."i. Mrs. Hoed was a daughter of David and Isabella Dicky l.awson and was one of a family of four brothers and no veil sisters, of whom live aro ctill living. Sho was married to Peter Heed on October 22nd, 1 s:M. Her father, David Liiwson, was one of the most Inllnentlal men of ills generation. Of Scotch Irish ancestry ho possefsed the characteristics of that people, anil this daughter Inherited to a marked degree the same sterling (nullities. Her chris tian life was unusually fearless anil conscientious, and impressed itself deeply upon all with whom she came In contact. She literally walked and talked with Cod and her life and prayers were a constant inspiration to others. She loved tho church and was never willingly absent from Its priv ileges. Th r husband, two sons and two daughters preceded her to thy lu ttor land, while two sons and one daughter remain to cherish her memory. The close of her life was quiet and peaceful and on the twenty-fourth of August her body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Himei-sburg to await the resurrec tion morn. Tlie mining situation here has for many months iiecn such tlint the minors, those in the employ of the Hell, Hew is tV Yates Co., could not earn a living, and now they cannot earn any thing at that occupation unless they go elsewhere for employment. The company has three mines here. Hm-hes- ter, the largest, and London and Sandy I.iok, two smaller mines. London mine is tho only one in which work has not been ordered entirely suspended for an indefinite period. V'ptvnrds of 2H) men are employed there, and they have been doing very little all summer, the same ns all tho other mines. At tho two other mines about "Oil men are em ployed when they are running full. Since work has b -on so slack tho number has been constantly decreasing. A minor told tho Caitrirr last evening that he thought not more than !i00 were working in Hochestor when they had work, several hundred having sought employment elsewhere. Some of those who left found employment at Wills ton, Adrian nnd Helvetia, nnd still others have taken up some other occu pation. Others will now begin to look for work elsewhere. Some have been continuing on with tho hope that there would bo an improvement till their re sources novo Decomo reilucca so mucli they must leave their families. If they go away, until they have hnd time to earn something. While tho company retains its largo holdings hero any suspension Is only temporary; but the men cannot stand the pinch while It lasts.
