Diinie Fashion has Issued an edict that a enrd with "no presents" on It Is to accompany an Invitation to attend a wedding. Tho wedding presents is ono of the pleasures tho maidens of tho nineteenth century have looked forward to, and now to think that Daino Fashion will rob them of this pleasure. What Inducement will there bo now for a girl who contemplates matrimony to have a big wedding party? To talk through a human body, or a row of human bodies, for tho mattor of fact. Is one of tho woirdost of the elec trician's feats, says Klcctriclty. If a tolephono wiro bo severed and tho two ends bo held by a porson ono In each hand not fur apart, it is possiblo for two individuals to carry on a conversation through tho body of the medium as readily and distinctly as if the lino had been properly connected. The department of pupllo instruction has prepared a statement which shows that $41,000,000 has been appropriated to the public schools of Pennsylvania since 1873. From 1843 to 1874 there was approprlatod $0,978,000 towards the maintenance of the schools. From 1874 until 1877 the annual appropriation was 1,000,000. Subsequently it was in creased to $1,500,000 and afterwards to $2,000,000. Three years ago tho amount was plaoed at $5,000,000 annually and in 1893 to $5,500,000. During: the Beaver . administration thore was appropriated to the schools of the state $7,000,000, . and during the Paulson administration 21,000,000. The increased appropria tions the past four year were largely . ascribable to the hope that they would put a stop to the agitation of logltila jtion for the equalization of taxation. Robert Ingersol, the infidel who leo tured at Pittsburg several weeks ago, has been receiving tome attention from the pulpit and press of the "Smoky City" and other places. Rev. H. I Hastings, of Boston, administered the following castigatlon to the infidel: "I have beard of a man traveling around the country exploding this book the bible, and showing up 'the Mistakes of Moses,' at about two hundred dollars a night. It is easy work to abuse Moses at two hundred dollars a night, especi ally as Moses is dead, and cannot talk back. It would be worth something after bearing the lufldel on 'the mis takes of Moses,' to bear Moses on 'the mistakes of the Infidel.' When Moses oould talk back he was rather a difficult man to deal with. Pharaoh tried it and met with poor success. Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, and it is said found a grave in the Red Sea. Korak, Datban, and Ablram tried it, and went down so deep that they have not yet got back. But now Moses is dead and tt is easy to abuse him. It does not take a very brave beaut to kick a dead lion. It would be interesting to hear a military loader and legislator, like 'Moe es the man of God,' who after he was eighty years old, commanded for forty years an army of six hundred thousand men, emancipating,' organizing, ard giving laws to a nation which had main tained its existence for more than thirty stormy centuries, give his candid opinion concerning 'the mistakes' of a colonel of calvary, whose military career la said to have Included one tingle en gagement, In which he was chased Into a hog-yard and surrendered to a boy of tlx teen; after which, as toon at ex changed, ha heroically resigned bis commission la thefaoeof the enemy, subsequently turned hit attention to managing swindling whisky rings, dis cussing theology, defending scoundrels, blaspheming God, and orltlclslng daad bmb who oanoot answer him." The Evils of Flirting. A giddy girl Is most given to the silly practice of Mining. Hho menus no harm nor does she expt ct harm to eomo of It, yet sho Is often made to suffer for her pranks. Men who do not flirt and do not make any advances to a st range wo man are attracted by her and enter into a flirtation. They have little respect for her at tho time, and it Is doubtful whother thoy will ever have tmtlro wn fldenco in her no matter how well she may conduct herself In their presenco. It is had enough for a girl to flirt, but more so for a married woman. Hho will bo set down at. once as untrue and indis creet If not downright bad. That sho flirts is enough for the men of the world, and her name Is whispered around in clubs, hotels and saloons, and nor character looked upon with re proach. Ex. Worth Knowing:.
