Money, which I tho "root of all evil," is perhaps used loss and Ichh every year. Checks, bill of exchange, etc., aro gradually taking It placo, toacmiHltler ahlo extent. Vast amount of money aro thus transferred from one pocket to another, and from ono ),art of tho world to another, without a slnglo genulno dollar leaving it place. An observant man says: Tho man who use hi brain make llttlo noise. 'Tl tho brass that I sonorous; and when a man Is a kettledrum you may know tho nolso ho make 1 largely echoes from cavities In hi cranium. There aro men passed on tho street every day unnotic ed, who think doepor and better, and who forget moro every year, than other who are leader In society. Lord Lytton says ho has read some where of an enchanted land where the inmates walked among voluptuous gardens, and built palace, and hoard musio, and made nurry, whllo around and within the land were doep caverns whore Rends dwelt, and ever and anon their groans and the sound of their ghastly revels traveled to the upper air. This ho claims to be a picture of a hu man life., The African leopard catches and do st roys the antelope through an appeal to this animal's curiosity. Concealing himself in the long grass among the leaves of green branches fallon or trail ing on the ground, he awaits the ap proach of his intended victim. Ho icnows that curiosity is a weeknoss of antelope; and when the graceful creature omes near the cunning foe he stirs tho greon covering which attracts the clos r inspection of the antelope. In an other moment tho leopard springs upon the incautious visitor and lays the bleeding carcass at his foet. So often folly and ruin is wrought among men by unbridled, morbid ourloslty. The most attractive age of a woman's life is the period when she is still young enough to be protty and old enough to be sympathetic, says Octave Thanet. For as grace is a woman's greatest beauty so sympathy is her greatest charm. A graceful and sympathetic woman is bound to bo attractive to the end of her days. If she adds a taste in dress and some sense to her equipment for pleasing, and does not grow deaf, I see no reason why she should not be fascinating in her old ago. Since the quostion, however, coneorns itself only with the most attractive ago of woman I must give the answer in my first sen tence. What that ago as measured by years may be, ought to vary with tho individual. Groat results may spring from small beginnings. Chantrey, the famous sculptor, when boy was observed by a gentleman cutting a stick with a pen knife. When asked what he was doing he replied, "I am cutting old Fox's head." Fox was the village school master. The gentleman examined the work, praised it greatly, and gave the youth a sixpense. Don't despise tho first attempts of a boy when he shows you his work. The river rolling its ac cumulated waters to the ocean was once but an oozing rill, trickling down some moss covered rock and winding like silver thread between the banks to which it imparted verdue.
