months of fine weather, wo nro now
havliiB some days that nro not so
pleasant.
At F. G. Swinglo's vendue on the
2Cth, most of tho things brought a
fair price.
John G. Calterson's health Is not
good of late.
h. F. Ammerman had tho misfor
tune to fall off a load of lumber and
quite badly Injure one nnklo.
Percy MiiRgrovo has been living at
Niagara Falls for some time past,
but Is now spending a few days with
Sterling friends.
A couple of months ago Ray Stev
ens hnd a horse that run a nail Into
its foot, and the animal does not Im
prove very fast.
Our faithful and accommodating
mall carrier, Grove Shearer, Is taking
a fortnight vacation if ho can stand
so long a rest and P. M. and John
Olllner are enjoying a pleasant vaca
tion also'.
On tho 23rd, Itally day wns duly
observed in tho Sunday school, and
everything passed off nicely. The
church presented tho appearance, of a
county fair, nnd we had the best col
lection of fruit, grain, -and vegetables
in the church that we ever saw in
Sterling.
On Sunday evening tho Ladies' Aid j
gave a "harvest home supper" nnd ro-j
allzed about $15.00. Wo also had al
number of songs, solos, etc., and the
reaui;'i.'F, acclamations nna masquer-1
uue rarauo ana exercises were great
ly enjoyed. Everybody voted the
whole performance a success.
The "Old Maid's Convention" set
a number of the bachelors a-thlnking;
and now1 reports says one fair- young
Twig is blooming for one sturdy
farmer, and in another case tji'e cli
max is reached and Frank B. Kend
rew and Miss Katie .M. Neville were
united in the holy bonds of matri
mony this week. Congratulations.
One evening a number of their
friends called upon the happy couple
and gave them a welcome.

ford on Friday called there by the
death of her uncle, Horace Brooks,
whoso funeral, occurred on Saturday
afternoon. Mrs. As,a Kimble of Dy
berry, accompanied her. They will
bo away several days.

Wiikes-Barre to spend the winter.
About fifty took supper at tho
home of Sir. and Mrs. J. J. Hauser
Friday evening. There was an elec
tion of ofllcers for the M. E. Ladles'
Aid which resulted in the following

Blake; secretary, Mrs. Charles Webb
and treasurer, Mrs. J. J. Hauser.

their property and wealth behind.

Tho first snow, of the season ap
peared Saturday, October 29. Quite
a change from the summerlike
weather we have been enjoying.
Though time for cooler weather, few

work and ready for it.

The L. A. S. met with Mrs. W. H.
Marshall for dinner on Wednesday
of last week. While the ladles busily
I plied their needles, and the gentle
men present were discussing topics of
interest, all were entertained with se
lections from a gramophone. Every
one aecmed to enjoy the gathering
