Thk iiolloe deserve the approval of all good citizens in their crusade upon the dens of iniquity in town. Let tlie good work continue. In the opinion of the liiiltlmoro Huu, the lending Democratic paper of Maryland, the instant the silver plunk of the Chicago convention is reaf firmed "the election of tv Republican President in 1000 becomes an absolute certainty." No evidence appears any where that the sound money men of lKOn have changed their opinion of the Chicago platform. It is reported that Deputy Coroner Darke has tendered his resignation to Coroner Dleiler, to take eirect to morrow. Several prominent Demo crats in town are active in securing the place. If the Coroner desires a competent, conscientious deputy he will appoint Dr. S. C. Spalding. There will be no unnecessary inquests dur ing his term, but whenever the cjr cumstances warrant it a searching inquiry will be inaugurated. Deceiving Himself. The newspaper clipping herewith quoted is taken from tho editorial columns of the Tamaqua Recorder. Our Democratic friends will read it more with disgust than amusement. Here it is: 'When the Democratic candidates for ofllces In this .county go out to electioneer they need have no fear that they wilt offend the Palmer nnd Ruckner Democrats by nny nctlon or ex pression. The chances are the Democratic nominees will not even run across a single Palmer and Iluckner adherci.t." Previous to the Democratic county convention, which wns controlled by "gold standard" Democrats, who dictated the nominees and the party platform, our friends of the Recorder proudly nailed to its editorial mast head the slogan, "The only Demo cratic newspaper supporting Bryan and the Chicago platform in the Third legislative district." Now, that banner has been hauled down, yet the Recorder is supporting the ticket, and in that respect the editor i9 simply deceiving himself. Having announced previous to the county convention that ho would not sup port a "gold standard" Democrat for Judge, or any other ofllce, the editor referred to lies awake o'nights in an effort to convince himself that there are no "Palmer and Buckner Demo crats" in this county. The reputed editor of ourTamaqua contemporary, should pull himself together and at once consult with his political god-father. Perhaps that brainy and fenrless champion of the "platform of 1890," John O.'Ulrich, could enlighten him on that score. The latter's experience as a delegate to the Democratic county convention would be a valuable contribution to the political history of Schuylkill, and would, perhaps, change Editor Hirsh's defective vision and lead him out of , the darkness into light. If that fails, our editorial brother might refresh his own memory and reflect upon his experience with the com mittee on resolutions, that turned down his pet dogma. If all this testi mony fails, as a last resort we advise him to scan the list of candidates on the Democratic ticket, and conjure with tho names of Wadlinger and Depew, and but why go further down the list? One who can eat crow as the editor of the Recorder has dished had to do during these trying summer months, with an ap parent relish as a stopping stone to the "loaves and fishes," at the sacri fice of prinoiples, would even accept the "Stuffed Prophet" as a Chicago platform Democrat. Ts, our edi torial friend is deceiving himself but not his readers. It will not be necessary, in this campaign, for the "Demoeratic candi dates" to "fear that they will offend the Palmer and Buckner Democrats by any expression or notions," for the reason that national issues were buried, without ceremony, at Potts ville on the 10th inst., and one of the chief mourners was our misguided friend of the Recorder.
