FUGITIVE CAUGHT. Wanted far Trial on an Old Charge nf Criminal Assault. Policeman George Uraltls made an Im portant and clover capture la town yester day. On November 3, 1808, one C.nstanc. Mlsk.l, aged 31 year., was arretted on a charge of committing a criminal auault upon the four-year-old daughter of Michael Wolskl, of West Cherry street. Two months later, after his trial, and whilo being Liken with five other prisoners from the court house to the jail, Miskcl made his escape. His whereabouts remained unknown to the authorities until yesterday, when Policeman Uraltls heard the man had come to town on a visit. As tho officer ontered a South llaln street saloon yesterday afternoon Mltkel mado a hurried exit at tho rear, dashed to Market alley, nnd then south to the Lehigh Valley railroad. Store. lllg Fireworks Display, Girardville probably had the greatest dis play of flro works of any place in the county last night and tho greatest was mado by the proprietor of a Chinese laundry, who In vested $225 Individually lu fireworks. A set piece of tho battle of Manila bay. with the figures of officers, ships, etc., was in the lot. It was stretched across Parker street and ignitod by a couple of hundred packs of nre crackers along the ground. Parker street was jammed with people for three or four squares. The Chinaman had declared that he would show "Melican man how to cele- blate north of J'ly," and he did It, Oil' to California. This oveniug Miss Hannah Davis, bar brother, Samuel Davis, and William Waters will Icavo for tho far West. They will go to 1,0s Angeles and Han Francisco. H. W. Koehler, on West Oak street, was also very prettily decorated. There were many attractions for the people after the parade. The Columbia Host Com pany held a picnic at Its park, the St. Michael's German Beneficial Society held one in Fowler's Grove, the returned soldiers of tho Spanish-American war held a festival iu Bobbins' hall, and many minor events afforded ample pastime for the day. Necrology Iteports or This and Other Towns of tho County, Harry, the infant son of P. J. and Maine Ferguson, died at the family residence on South White street, yesterday. The tunoral will take place to-morrow, proceeding by special L. V. train at 12:50 p. m. for Mahauoy City. Michael Scanlan died at an early hour yes terday morning at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Hughes, on North Plum alley. Deceased was 01 years of ago and had been a suflbror of Brlght's disease. Another daughter, Miss Lizzie, and a son, Michael, of Wm. l'enn, survive. The funeral will take placo to-morrow morning, Luko Davis, aged 52 years, died at 4:30 o'clock this morning at his residouce, 313 West Mayberry alley. The death was due to minors' asthma. He was a nativo of Wales and came to America when but a child. He was reared at St. Clair and for the past St years has been a resident of Shenandoah. His death is mourned by his three brothers, William and David, of town, and George Davis, of Bethlehem. Two sisters, Miss Emma, and Mrs. Dayld Morgan, of Phila delphia, also survive. The funeral will take place on Saturday afternoon, at 12:30 o'clock. Service will be conducted at the residence. The remains will bo taken on the 2:10 p. m. Pennsylvania train to St. Clair for intermsnt in the Odd Fellows' cemetery there. The deceased waa a member of Shenandoah Lodge, No. 591, 1. O. O. F. Henry Eady, a veteran of the civil war, died at his homo in Tamaqua on Monday, aged 60 years. He suffered from dropsy for eight years. Ten children survive. Funeral to-morrow afternoon. Benjamin Sands, an aged resident of Wm. Venn, who died cm Sunday last, was burled to-day. The remains were brought to town and Interred In the Odd Fellows' ccmotery. Killed on the lUllrnads. James Merryficld, a miner by occupation and residing at Flshbach, a suburb of Potts vllle, imbibed too freely yesterday and laid on the tracks of tho Mt. Laffee branch of the Pottsvillo electric railway. About nine o'clock a car came along, tho bend in the track proventiug the motorman from seeing him, his two legs being crushed. The man died shortly after being removed to tho hospital. At an early hour yesterday morning the body of a man, with the head completely soyered from the trunk, was found on the Philadelphia and Reading railroad about a half-mile above Minersville. Tho body was identified as that of Matthew Nash, of Mackoysburg. Ho was 80 years old and single. He had gone to Minersville on Mon day night and spent his time in the saloons. Arrested With n Posse. Demlniak Sovlhki, one of the men ar rested for robbery In the First ward about three weeks ago, and who was subsequently released fiom tho lockup by a friend who has since been arrested and put under bail for the kindness, was recaptured to-day. There wg a great celebration of the Fourth here, with fireworks, bauds, speechon and decora tlon3 everywhere, all nationalities par ticipating. The foreign ships and con sulates, Including the Spanish, raised their colors in conjunction with the Stars and Stripes. The flagship Balti more fired a national salute at noon. All nationalities enjoyed what the Spanish papers termed "the fiesta of North America." Newsboys shouted Fourth of July editions, soldiers pa raded the town, throwing firecrackers from the batteries on the water front. In the afternoon the Luneta was crowd ed with Filipinos and Spaniards. There were thousands of pedestrians, and hundreds of carriages went there for the concert, directed by liundmnster Carl Olndt, of the Sixth artillery band. A hundred Filipinos played American tunes. Several hundred boys and girls, Fil ipinos, Spaniards and Chinese, from tho public schools, dressed In their best clothes, each carrying an Ameri can flag, sang "Amerlcn" In a curious mixture of dialects. Chaplain ICnuds den, of the Washington regiment, read the- declaration of independence. The officers of the United Statea cruiser Baltimore gave a reception and dance, which was attended by the for eign consuls, tho officers of the foreign warships and all the society of tho army and nary circle. Colonel Denby presided at the celebration at tho Sol diers' club, where Mr. O. F. Williams, United States consul general, and others delivered addresses. The of ficers of the Colorado regiment gave a reception at the regimental barracks, and there were several dances during the evening.
