"Onk hundred dollars u week" is
expensive nowspnper correspondonce

Considkhahlk building is going on
in Shenandoah at this time, lint that
is nothing unusual at tills time of the
year.
Tiik arrests in the counterfeit cases
is extending to "enormous propor
tious." Some pretty big fish have
been caught.
Nkxt week's criminal court prom

that a special session may be neces

Tub reformers in New York city
are fighting among themselves. It is
the general belief that Mr. Park
Hurst is rapiiliy passing out or tne
sight of men.
Tiik Herald's editorial opiulons
are not influenced by mercenary con
slderations. In other words, it is not
a boodle organ, but is a Republican
newspaper Whoso opinions are not
purchasable.
Tint leaders of the two Republican
parties in this state, it is said, will
begin another bitter warfare after
Dewey Day. If their slaughter was
confined to themselves, the party
would be the gainer.
1?f?KDemocratB had. seven out of
the eight representatives in the legis
lature from this county. The seven
members secured the enactment of
but one measure, the election of
borough Supervisors by direct vote.
Tiiit Republican primaries in Brad
ford county will be held next Satur
day, and therd will be a fight between
the Quay and anti-Quay factions for
delegates to the state convention.
Each faction has a ticket in the field.
Tub retirement of Speaker Reed
from public life is to be regretted, es
pecially so from a Republican stand
point. He is great in all the elements
that comprise leadership. How the
Republicans are going to get along
without him is a problem of great
seriousness. His retirement, how
ever, will be a relief to the Demo!
crats.
Thomas J. Jovok, the Mahanoy

charge of perjury by one John J.

clemency, in the light of recent de

these- .circumstances, Joyce has al

Tiik members or the House com

the prosecution. It is likely these
cases will be called at the next ses

which begins on the second Monday
in June. The Business Men's League
will aid the prosecution financially.
Wk can hardly credit the statement
that Muj. Finney deserted Quay.
We'd rather believe that the Sub

might not the doughty Major inquire

during those trying times when loyal
Democrats stood shoulder toshoulder
for George A. Jenks? And might he
not inqui'e further way Quay re

questions when party regularity is
under discussion, and we would sug

HOW TO FIND OUT.
Fill i bottle or common glasss with your
water and let it stand twenty-four hours:
a sediment or settling indicates an unheal
thy condition of the kidneys ; if it stains
your linen it is evidence of kidney trouble ;
too frequent desire to pass it or pain in the
back is also convincing proof that the kidneys
and bladder are out of order.
WHAT TO 1JO.
Tliete is comfort iu the knowledge so
often expressed, that Dr. Kilmer's Swamp-
Root, the great kidney remedy fulfills every
wish in curing rheumatism, pain in the back,
kidneys, liver, bladder and every part of the
urinary passages. It corrects inability to hold
water and scalding pain in passing it, or bad
effects following use of liquor, wine or beer,
and overcomes that unpleasant necessity of
being compelled to go often during the day,
and to get up many times during the night.
The mild and the extraordinary efiect of
Swamp-Root is soon realized. It stands the
highest for its wonderful cures of the most
distressing cases. If you need a medicine you
should have the best. At druggists fifty cents
or one dollar.
You may have a sample bottle and a book
that tells more about it, both sent absolutely
free by mail, if you send your address to Dr.
