The town council of Alalmnoy City held an important meeting last night, and following tho action of tho Borough Fathers of this town, will investigate tho matter and if th ordinances allow it will place a tax upon the Traction Company's cars. A motion was ottered instructing the Ordinance Committee to present an ordinanco providing for an annual tax of $1.00 for each and every pole, and $50 lor each car of tho company. Several amendments wero luiido and defeated, and finally those Councilmcn friendly to the Traction Company succeodod in having action on the motion postponed until the noxt meeting. The Chief Burgess' shortage was again up and as ho made no payment to the Treas urer his salary for December was withheld. The Solicitor was instructed to proceed against the Burgess if he continues to refuse payment. Onepf tho reformed membeis, Wortman by name, offered a resolution that a committee bo appointed to Investigate the doings of the street committee during the last two years as to whether their doings wero lawful; whether thoy had the right to overstep their appro priation as they did; whether they did not uccept material for the borough at higher prices than were bid by competing bidders, and whether they did not indirectly if not directly draw money out of the borough treasury. This created much discussion but was adopted. You ccn buy it at Brumms. 12-27-tf COAL TRAINS COLLIDE. .Several Cars Smashed near Koliluoor Junction Tu-day. At noon to-day there was a collision be tween coal trains on the Lehigh Valley Rail road near Kohinoor Junction, at the western outskirts of town, that resulted in several cars and an engine being wrecked, but for tunately no person received bodily injury. The wreck occurred on one of tho sharp curves between the junction and the Browns ville station. The several tracks between the points stated havo the form of tho letter "s." Engine No. 310 was eastbound with a train of loaded coal cars, and approaching from the western end of tbe curve. Engine No. 403 was shifting at the eastern end to make up a train of loaded coal cars, and when the collision occurred was pushing loaded cars westwardly. There is a heavy decline In tbe grado castwardly from the Brownsville station to about tho middle of the curve, then a heavy upward grade begins and it is customary to throw open all tho brakes when the ascent begins. The brakeman of engine 310 threw open the brakes too soon and the speed attaint d was so great that tbe train of 310 crashed into tho cars engine 103, was pushing, wrecking four of them and scattering tho coal over the track of the Ashland branch. A woman was engaged in picking coal on tho tracks and one of the cars barely missed toppling over on her. Tho smoke stack, pilot and tender of engine 403 wero wrecked. Tho pilot of engine 310 was badly damaged. Tho crew of the latter were Charles Avery, engineer; Samuel Ger bart, firerran, both of Delano. Thomas l'aulokonls, who keeps a saloon on Centra street, in the First ward, mourns tho loss of his wife, Nellie Josephine Puulokonls, olio of his children and a considerable sum of money. Thomas says that while ho was in attend ance at the Pottsvlllo court as a wituess yes terday aftornoon his wife went away.
