SCHUYLKILL county was well repre sented at Harrisburg yesterday by Republican politicians, but Senator L'isi'h was the only one whtse word counted in the Senatorial light. Burgkss Taboii gives notice that he will rigidly enforce the ordinance in reference to obstructions on the sidewalks, -without discrimination. In this respect he will receive hearty support from pedestrians. A NEW train between New York and San Francisco will make the run in four days. Yet when California was annexed there were prophets who said the country would be ruined & by taking in such distant territory. It is perfectly apparent that every thing is not serene in the Democratic camp in this county. The newly- elected public officials are having their troubles, and they will increase, rather than diminish, for some of these officials. The County Commissioners made but one change in the old corps of clerks. The reappointment of 'Squire T. T. 'Williams, of town, as docket clerk, gives general satisfaction. His long experience in legal mutters em inently fits him for the position, and bis retention is pleasing tojill who have business connected with the criminal court. What Shall We Do. tV serious and dangerous disease prevails in this country, dangerous because so dcep tive. It comes on so slowly yet surety that it is often firmly seated before we nre aware of it. The name of this disease which may be divided into three distinct stages is, First, Kidney trouble, indicated by pain in the back, rheumatism, lumbago, frequent desire to urinate often with a burning sensation, the flow of urine being copious or scant with strong odor. If allowed to advance, this reaches the Second stage, or Madder trouble, with heavy lain in the abdomen low down between the navel and the water passage, increasing de sire to urinate, with scalding sensation in passing, small quantities being passed with difficulty, sometimes necessary to draw it with instruments. If uric acid or gravel has formed, it will prove dangerous if neglected, The Third stare is Bright's Disease. The war investi gating commission has decided to make a thorough Investigation of the com plaints made about the beef furnished the army In the expeditionary cam paigns. Summons was made yesterday for the appearunce before the commis sion next Friday of Major Daly, the chief surgeon at the army headquar ters at Tampa prior to the departure of the Shatter expedition, who made a vigorous report, forwarded by General Miles, In condemnation of the beet. The Swift Packing company, of Chi cago, will be heard next Monday In defense of these supplies. The board decided to go Into the in vestigation exhaustively. All the rec ords will be carefully examined, wit nesses will be summoned, and when ever possible affidavits will be" obtained In support of testimony. General Miles will undoubtedly be summoned, as well as othej army officers conversant with the facts. The general of the army is very complacent over the matter. The 300,000 pounds of refrigerator beet arrived at Ponce the very day the protocol was signed. The amount of fresh meat, it Is stated, would have furnished rations for the American troops then on the island for 50 days. But, It Is added, had it been landed It could not have been kept. There was barely enough Ice In Ponce to sup ply the hospitals. Had the beef been landed almost tho entire quuntlty, the general of the army holds, must in evitably have spoiled. It Is believed the work of the board will consume the greater portion of two jveeks, possibly longer. Wasted to a skeleton; his lungs a mass of ulceration; bis death was hourly awaited by his doctor and family. He was kept iu a constant stupor with opium. A friend, thinking to relieve his terrible cough, gave him a bottle of Brazilian Balm. Seeing its wonderful effect, the doctor advised its continued 'use. Mr. Tames soon after dismissed his doctor, and depended on the'Balm alone. His recovery was rapid and complete, and in February he returned to work. His lungs arc sound, and his weight greater than at any time in his life. His recovery is regarded ns almost a miracle. COMMA J1ACILLUS. In consumption bewnre of couch mix tures and prescriptions that contain opium. Opium paralizes the nerves, and gives the comma bacillus a good chance to destroy the lungs. It is always fatal. Brazilian Balm does not coutain a trace of any opiate, but stimu lates the nerves witli new life and power. destroys the microbe, nnd restores all that is left of the diseased lungs to a sound andiealthy state which no other remedy has ever been .known to accom plish.
