Three lives weie lost In the Delaware river oppo Bltp this place last night by the breaking- of the Ice under a Meddlnrr party. The dead are Nellie Fields, Hlchard Koverns and Mark Laumastcr. Bertha Fields, a sl?ter of Nellie, was rescued with great dilllciilty. The four were all In the neighlioihood of 0 years of age, and lived In Bristol, Pa., across the river from here. Phortly nfter 7 o'clock the young men took the CI1I3 on the river for a sled dlnir excursion. The Ice was well cov ered with skating: and sledding parties, nnd there was no Indication of danger. Severns nnd Laumaster were drawing1 the sled, on which the girls were seated, when without a moment's warning "tho Ice broke and the whole party, with the sled, plunged Into the water. The break occurred about a hundred yards off shore, and tho cries of the strug gling young men and women brought a crowd to their rescue. George An derson, of Burlington, caught Bertha Fields ns she rose to the surface and succeeded In pulling her out on the Ice. The current Is quite swift where the accident happened, and helped to drag the others down. Their struggles only made their situation more desperate, the Ice contlnuinc to break as they strove to draw themselves out. Within a few moments, however, the three sank beneath the Ice for the last time. Toilful WO.pn to Dentil. Heading, Pa., Feb. D.
