Main St. EVENING HERALD FI1IDAY, JUNE 3, 1S00. Tlio Coat Trade. As suggested in this column somo weeks ago. tho quantity of anthracite coal nccilou for tho months of May and June, would bo fully met by a shipment of 0,0U0,U0U tons. Indeed of this quantity, somo has gono into stock and is held by first hands at tho various points in tho States where tho dumping grounds aro located. The tonago forwarded in May is said to havo been on tho basis of one-half the amount named and ail even ouantity will bo mined in June. Otlicial figures show that shipments of anthracite, during tho month of April, wero 3,013,190 tons, making 12,159,2SS tons for the first four mouths of I'M). Adding 0,000,000,000 tons thoieto, we get in round numbers 1S,500,000 tons for the Urst half of tho year. In tho last half of the year, an increase of 33 per cent, gives a tonage of 21,000,000 and a total of 12,500,000 tons for tho year. That is enough, if tho idea of a remuuerativo price being had is to bo realized. Tho coal mined in the period for April to December is not all consumed and much of it is not sold, but is carried for future needs, cither by the com panies, tho retailer or tho consumer. If tho wholesale, f. o. b., prices that aro supposed tu rule, are realized, there will bo no hard ship to anyone, and tho producers will do remarkably well in the way of earning dividends. Following is the latest circular price-Hit of free-burning coal, f. o. b., at New York loading poiuts: HroKcn, $3.50; egg, $3.75; stove, $1; chestnut, $3.75. Sa ward's Coal Journal.
