Tho skin was pooled from tholr faoos and arms, and they presented a horrible appearance When tho steam had cleared away It was found that Ave men had been scalded to death and that llvo others wore badly Injured, two of whom died after reaching tho hospital. Tho police woro notified and ambulances wero summoned from thf Hudson Street hospital. Doctors accom panied tho ambulances to tho pier, and did what they could to relievo tho scalded men. Tho injured woro then convoyed ta tho hospital. Fawns, Manning, Campbell, Williams and McCnlllon wero dead bofore help reached them. They wero nearest to the steam valvo which burst, and tho escap ing steam struck them with such force that they wero unnblo to help thumselvcs, and they wore scalded to death In u fow minutes. Tho other men who wero in the fire room at the tlmo of tho accident ran for their lives. All succeeded In escaping with tho exception of those mentioned.
