Tho issuo in tho present campaign is met fairly and Miuarely by tho Kcpublican party in this county, a plank in tho platform of which proclaims: "Wo condemn the uniform incompetency of tho Democratic county odlcinlH and especially denounce tho present flagrant mismanagement t the District Attorney's ofllec of pigeon-holing indictments against polltieiil heelers who openly defy tho election laws; and call upon all good citizens, irrespective of party, to assist us in electing to that office a lawyer of such legal attainments nnd personal integrity as will en sure n proper administration of its duties nnd tho punishment of nil offenders, regardless of party -or political inlluence." Thk Democratic party in tho present cam jmign is in sad straits, when it becomes necessary for threo of its prominent loaders to vouch for their loyalty to the ticket through the party organs. They arc hope lessly divided, and none know it bettor than ihomsclvos. Thk Democrats aro taking to tlio woods. Thk nephew of his undo will 1 o a wiser liut sadder young man after Tuesday. I Skk that your neighbor votes uu Tuesday Every good citizen should oxorcteo tho right -of frrnchite. Ik foot ball is likely to get a stronger foot hold in Shenandoah than it now has wo will havo to arrange for an emergency hospital to promptly oaro for tho wounded. Wo havo had riots hero In years gone by witli less injury to tho participants than resulted in tho Sfimo yesterday. THE JUDGESHIP. The judicial contest in this county is an important one, and presents tlio question of minority representation in its strongest light. It goos deeper than tho mere qualifications of the tw candidates now seeking tho siillrage ef tho people. lioth Judgo T. II. It. Lyon and P. M. Dunn, Esq., aro men of irreproachable char acter, and their legal abilities aru of sucli a high order that cither would grace tlio posi tion with honor to themselves and credit to tho judicial ermine. Those statements are admittedly true, and none but the most bigoted partisan would question their truth fulness. Fortunately tho latter class of oters do not predominate in Schuylkill county. Tho justice of minority representation and a non-iKirtisan judiciary aro the issues in the content that overshadow moro pari win feel ing and obliterate jmrty lines. Tho argument iii favor of a iion-pai'tinim judiciary is rocbgHigoil in tlio law creating the Superior Court, without which the friends and admirers of Judge Oliver P. Ileelitel would liavo little hojie of his election. The make-up of tho lioards of County Commis sioners and County Auditors is further proof of the juntico of the claim that tlio bench Hbould have minority representation. Take tho argument, for instance, that is just now being tifed by tho Democrat in advocating the election of one of their candidates on tho plan of minority representation. Judge Lyon was appointed to the position lie now till to acceptably by Governor Hast ings upon the solicitation and recommenda tion of tho members of tl0 Iwr, both Demo crat and Itepubllutiw. Ho has presided over the Orpliaiis' Court with dignity, and his decisions have been rendered in aoeorilanoe witli law and justice. The iatue presented by our Democratic friends in nominating a candidate for the office Is purely iwrtlsnn. No other argument can be produced In behalf of Mr. Dunn's election. If it is advisable to have minority representation in other and less important branches of government, how much more so is it In the Judiciary. Without it a spirit of suspicion mid unrest exists among those of the minority, and nt times oven pinotiK those of tlio dominant party. Tlio isuo in an important one, and, in wo havo previously stated, h above and beyond all liartisan fi't-litifc. Were Judge Lyon tlio inferior of hU opponent and not endowed Willi tho name legal ability, tliero might bo good reason for his defeat. Hut such is not tlio cne, and henco ho should bo retained in liis present position upon tlio bench by an overwhelming majority, and thus establish tlio question of a nott-partlson judiciary so fur as tills country is eoticorueil. DuitltANT, tlio California fiend, was found gnilty in short order yetjday after a long and stubbornly contested trial, and outraged society thus avenges anothor violation of human rights. Now let tho Holnioa jury do tho mine at tho proper time. SiiiiNANDOAH will give a good account of itself on Tuesday. Tho voto in this town will he a surprise to many who think they know it all. Tim heavy rain has had a serious effect upon tho frills und frizzles of tho Democratic beauties. They aro drooping tho candi dates, wo moan. CnAiitMAN Paynv. can find enough good working Republicans in Shenandoah to arrange for any public meetings that aro found necessary Without going far to hunt them. Hit. J. S. Skyfiikt, tho Republican candi date for Coroner, is worthy of tho voto of cvory member of his party. At his homo ho stands high as a physician and gentleman. The Herald, a Democratic paper published at his home, says : "Dr. S. J. Scyfert has a largo circle of acquaintances throughout this sec tion, and irrespective of party afliliations, they should coino out on Tuesday and cast their ballots for so worthy a candidate. They know Dr. Scyfert and will do a credit to themselves by casting a voto for him." Hooiilk! boodle ! is tho stock in trado of tho Democracy. Tub reception tendered tho Koyal Welsh ladies Choir last evening, in Ferguson's theatre, was highly complimentary t the members of that excellent musical organiza tion and gratifying to the members of the local committee having tho affair in elmrjio. Too much praise cannot bo given Madame Davios, tlio leader and instructor of tho choir. She deserves it all. Ah r.i.KCTloN day draws nearer, thu indica tions point strongly to a Republican sweep. Tin: otllco of District Attorney during the next three years will bu a terror to misdoers under tho administration of Charles K Ilreckons. He will know neither fear nor favor. Two Lives Suvcd. Mrs. Phoebo Thomas, of Junction City, 111., was told by her doctors siio had Con sumption and that there was no hope for her, hut two bottles Dr. King's Now Discovery completely cured her and sho says it saved her life.
