After the discourse the object and plans of tho Institute wero explained, tracts were dis tributed and tlio audienco was accepted us a committee of the wliolo to institute a branch for local work. Under tho direction of Prof. Dill tho following ollicers wero elected: President, Rev. Hobort O' Boyle, Trinity Re formed church ; 1st Vice President, Rev. J. F. Meredith, Methodist Episcopal church ; Treasurer, J. B. Lesslg; Recording Secretary, C. W. Dengler; Correspondiiigsecretary, Rev. T. M. Morrison, Prosbyterian church. Prof. Dill then announced that eacli de nomination in tho. town was entitled to a vice prosident in tho branch and tlio following elections weio mado : Rev. John Bath, Primi tive Methodist church , Rev. C. W. Scchrist, English Lutheran church ; Rev. R. M. Lichtcnwalncr, United Evangelical church; R. A. Glover, Prosbyterian church ; John Starr, Trinity Reformed church. The branch has the privilege at any time to add to tlio list of vice presidents whenever any denomination desires representation. As a helping eommitteo for work among tho women is necessary for successful work, the local branch of tlio Young Women's Christian Temperance Union was elected an auxiliary committee. Prof. Dill stated tho local branch will also be in illicit touch witli tlio National Institute and whenever any attempt is made to en croach upon the Sabbath law's in any state all brunches of that stato will bo at once notified ijy telegraph, so that they may havo time to send representatives to tho field of action. A week is to bo devoted to the Institute's work at St. Clair next November. Address of Prof. Dill on tho labor question was accompanied by an explanation of chart outlining tlio subject. The speaker said that tho joint welfnro of capital and labor rested on two commandments (1) "Thou shalt love tlio Lord thy God" and (2) "Thou slialt lovo thy neighbor ns thybclf," and that when these commandments are adhored to as they should be all capital and all labor shall be employed. Many people, tlio speaker baid, looked upon the improved machinery of tlio modern age as a curse to tlio working 1 classes, but it is only the carrying out of God's promise to relieve tlio world of drudgery. Tlio timo will como when machinery will lie invented to do tlio work of twenty or moro men witli oven the im proved machinery of tlio present timo. What will be the situation then 1 God lias designed that tlio surplus capital and labor will lie turned into a higher sphere. Prof. Dill said lie believed that it is God's intention in timo to causo ono portion of tlio wealth of tho world to bo invested in industrial and com mercial interests, ajiotlier to tlio intellectual and moral traiuingof tho world, and tlio third to the spiritual training, such as missionary work. Thoso vocations will employ all the labor. The change will ho realized when the holders of wealth shall experience a change of heart and follow in tho footsteps of Stephen Girard and McCormick by establishing liomos, schools and colleges that will require tlio employment of instructors and otlior as sistants.
