It was Bituated directly un der tho central pillar of tho structuro, tho undermining of which precipitated tho disaster. The well was only eighteen Inches below the concreto base on which the pillar rotted. It was of tho old fash ioned sort, six feot deep by olght feet In diameter, lined with rough stones, and thero was no water In It. Tho corouor and several building ex ports examined tho well, but would gtvs no opinion on the matter. Ono building expert said, however, that neither tho contractor nor tho officers of the building department could havo been unaware of the fact that the well was there, nor of the fact that Its filling was too soft. A representative of the district attor ney's ofilee will attond the Inquest on the bodies, and If any ovldonco of criminality Is discovered tho case will bo laid before the grand jury.
