She Smilingly egulled Him Into Acknowledging alionvinclng Piece of Evidence of the Charges Made Against Him. A well laid and carried out scheme on he part of a deceived wife has caused an eruption in the domestic relatiousof oue of the well known families of towru oh. though up to the present time therelbave been no divorce proceedings, or other like puollc developments in tue case. .... . . The wife was so much elated by the suo! cess of the scheme that she could not keep the story within the precincts of the household, and It was so clever it will bear publication. The wife had her suspicions against the moral deportment of her spouse aroused by the tales of neighbors. For a time she treated the stories as grist from the mill of idle gossips, but by close ob servation aud diligent inquiry she at last satisfied herself that there were grounds for the reports. Finally she openly charged her husband with infidelity, but he met the attack with a broad front of Injured Innocence and the wife faltered. For a time there was peace, but the continued gossip caused the wife to renew her vigilance. It was to no purpose, how ever, one could secure no more proof than before. She knew her Bpouse went to u certain house of ill repute only from reported gossip. Suddenly a bright idea struck her and she lost no time in putting it into execution. She secured the co operation of a male relative who induced a female inmate of the house of ill repute to cut a button from the erring husband's coat. The button was placed in the wife's hands and a few days ago the huBband remarked that he had lost a button from his coat. "Is this the button, dearf" asked the wife with a sweetnees that hadn't the slightest touch of suspicion In It. The spouse readily recognized the button and was then told how and when it left the coat. The' husband has also been telling the story with the comment that it was one of the cutest tricks he has ever seen played. B. B. B. At the SchelQy House tonight. A Stock SACRIFICE. "Dicky" .Morgan Told a Fib. Mr. William L. Torbert wishes it under stood that the statement, made by our Shenandoah correspondent that the first price he asked for the land for the site for the water dam from the borough ot Shen andoah was $5,000, is untrue. His first claim was $50,000. The award is less than half the price he demanded. Mr. Torbert, as our correspondent stated, is not criti cised in this matter. He did what any other man would have done to determine the matter, appoalod to court, and there is no intention to reflect upou him in any way. It would bo highly unjust to do so. It is very natural, however, that Shenan doah people should kick against an award which they believe to be excessive, just as Mr. Torbert would probably do if he was. in their place.
