Months of Suffering Hood's

Stahlstown, Tcnn.
"C. I. Hood tt Co., Lowell, Mass.:
" Gentlemen : Four years last January I was
taken down with sub-acute rheumatism which
located at the base of the brain. It was eight
weeks less one day before I was able to walk
out of the house and after months of suffering
and much pain I feared
I Would Never Bo Well.
My physician advised mo to use Hood's Sarsa
parilla. After taking It In half doses for two
weeks I felt better, so at different times after
wards I used It awhile and during tho last year
I have again been restored to Invigorated health
by It. I attribute my restoration to health to
the use of Hood's Sarsaparilla. My son has had
catarrh since quite young and last summer
.while attending school be used two bottles of
IHooffsCures
Hood's Sarsaparilla and said It did him mor.
mod than he realized from tioo for prescrip
tions, etc." Noah J. Hoknkr, Postmaster and

The crime foe which Joso Salvador
Franch suffered tho death penalty was th
most revolting of all the orlmos of Euro

crowded with an nudlcnce composed
mainly of the elite of the city, two bombs
were thrown from the gallery Into the
audience beneuth. One of the bombs ex

excitement had partially subsided It was
discovered that twenty persons had been
killed or received injuries which afterward
proved futal, while llfty others were seri

French was arrested, and on trial was con

conviction ho pretended penitence and
conversion, and wua allowed certain liber

Treatment of Eczema and Salt Rheum.
These two complaints are so tenacious
that the readers of the Herald should
know of the success obtained by using
Dr. David Kennedy's Favorite Remedy.
Where all other treatments failed, tt has
made a complete enre.
Perhaps no more horrible case of Salt
Rheum was ever reported than that of
Wilbur L. Hale, quartermaster, Pratt
Post, G. A. R., Rondout, N. Y. Several
physicians utterly failed to render him
any relief; finally one of the physicians
suggested that Dr. Kennedy's Favorite
Remedy be tried and steady improvement
followed its use, and a permanent cure
resulted.
It Is used with similar success in caes
of scrofula, nervousness, kidney and liver
complaints, and in all diseases brought
about by bad blood and shattered nerves.

Holmes was raised In Hiirllngton, Vt.,
and studied In tho schools there until hu
was 10 years old. Hu taught school for a
time, and nflorwnrtts attended the local
college, working In Btunmer time to pay
Ills fees. Graduating in Hurllngton ho
went to a Michigan college, and thero
lnado the aciiualntnnce, an a student, of
tho physician who, he alleges, agreed to
supply the body used In this last fraud
from New York. Tho two young men
worked during vacations, as Holmes had
dono in the cast. About twelve, years ago,
ono summer, they were short of funds,
nnd Holmes' friend thought of an insur
ance swindle, in which a bogus body was
to bo used. Tho friend, now a physician,
hail his llfo insured for 112,000; the body
was procured In Chicago; tho identifica
tion with tho Insured doctor was made,
and Holmes collected the money.
The schomo was repeated several times.
On one occasion Holmes insured his own
llfo for tSO.OOO. Then lie went to a hotel
In Ithode Island, wearing a beard. Ho
got a body, took It two miles from tho
hotel, cut tho head off, and buried tho
rest, lie shaved, went to tho hotel, regis
tered under a now name, and asked for
Holmes. They said he had gono out, but
was stnying at tho hotel. The swindler
took the head, charred It in the hotel fur
naco and tried to identify it as his own.
This particular scheme fell through.
An account is given of tho mysterious
disappearance of a young womun who was
Intimate with Holme. The story was
continued by the criminal himself lu his
conversation with Crawford. In Chicago,
ho suld, whero he wa living with his sec
ond wlfe.hc became Intimate with nyoung
girl, a typewriter. He furnished apart
ments for her, where she was visited by
her sister, oldrthnu she. The young girl,
infatuated with Holmes, becumo jealous
of her sister, and one day, in his absence,
brained bur with a stool.
"When I came back," continued tho
swindler, "I found tho dead body In tho
rooms. I took tho corpse, put it in a
trunk and sunk it In tho lake. This was
a year and a half ugo. The younger sis
ter, in danger of arrest for murder, was
anxious to escape. She owned some prop
erty at Fort Worth amounting to $10,000
Pitezel and 1 took this property off her
hands and gave her money to fly the coun
try. "Wo thou bought horses, getting credit
on the strength of tho Fort Worth prop
erty. But the deeds weren't straight, aud
we needed money to keep the thing going.
So the two of us agreed to work the Insur
ance scheme again, and that's how this
trouble began."
Miulgutt's Enrly Life.
TILTON, N. H., Nov. 21. II. II. Holmes,
who was arrosted in Boston on tho ohargo
of conspiring to defruud tho 'Fidelity Mu
tual Life Insurance company of $10,000, is
a New Hampshire man. Holmes, or Her
man Mudgett, as he Is known hero, is at
c.ira of ago, and was born In a small town
a few iiiilcc .roui here. He was regnrded
as a scapegrace and never had any particu
lar occupation. Eight years ago he left
very mysteriously and nothing has been
known of hlin until lust year, when ho
visited Ills pnreuts. Ho explained that
when ho left New Hampshire ho went west
nnd while traveling thero ho had his skull
fractured nnd was robbed of his gold watch
and considerable money In a railroad ac
cident. In tho hospital ho was given tho
name of H. H. Holmes and went out not
knowing that he had over had any other.
Ho then went to Ann Aibor, studied law
and graduated. During tho year of his
mental trouble ho married a western
woman and by her had ono child. When
the name of Herman Mudgett dawned
upon him ho said ho bad an uncontrollable
desire to visit his home and friends, and
that is how he accounted for his sudden
appeuranco here.

Cincinnati, Nov. 21. On the 25th of
last July Mary Kkhart, of Dayton, waa
found dead in hor room, 292 W alnut street.
this city, with a towol knotted around her
neck, her room locked and no clew of the

this murder with that of Minnie Keldt In
New York on May Bl and that of Joslo

Tho Enquirer then calls attention to the
resemblance in circumstances between

all these ruurders were committed by one
and the same man, the Denver strangler,
as indicated by tho rosomblanco in method
and concurrent circumstances.
