Senator Stewart, of Nevada, Is the most mentioned for permanent chnlrinan by the western- pfipp'i, but a growing senti ment has dovelopeu .u favor of General Warner for tho position. Kcnrln apper tained that If a western mnn Is made per1 mnnent chnirmnn an Impression will go abroad that the convention is being man aged wholly in tho Interest of western mine owners, and for this reason many ot the delegates favor General Warner of some other eastern mnn. Among todny's arrivals wero ex-Congressmen II. F. Hartlne and T. K. Wren, of Nevada. "Our delegation tvil not be a very large one," said Mr. Hartlne. "Wo shall demand free coinago on a ratio of 1 to 10. It Is absurd to sny that silver can be produced nt fifty cents an ounce. There aro occasions when a rich flnd may put tho cost of mining down to that figure, but tho uverfge cost at mining silver is about a dollar an ounce.
