Tho burglars stolo a small trunk which contained many valuable articles. Tho manner in which tho trunk was removed was shown by a plank with ono end resting upon a window Bill of tho second story extension to tho Qoldin building and tho other end resting on a -window sill of tho vacant building next door. Tho latter building adjoins tho Watson House, and suspicion was at onco directed against somo of tho pooplo boarding there. It was learned that ono of tho boarders left tho hotel at 8 o'clock Monday night, saying ho was going to Mahanoy City, and was not seen after. Constablo Phillips was given a warrant and ho found tho suspected man at Mahanoy City. Both returned to town yesterday afternoon, but tho cluo proved fruitless, as tho suspected party satisfied tho officer that ho had nothing to do with tho robbery. Tho trunk was found in a gaily at the south end of Market alley. Tho lid was smashed, tho burglars having paid no atten tion to tho lock, and only a few letters and papers of no value belonging to Mr. Goldin were found in it. Mr. Qoldin says among the articles missing aro a gold watch, valued at $17;goldnccklcss, $25; gold and silver watch chain, $5; gold bracelet, $15; a capo, $10; dress goods, $10; linen?, $10; silk apron, $3; jeweled pin, $3, Tho burglars were ovidently of a daring class and well acquainted with tho neigh' borhood. Mrs. Qoldin was in a room nd' joining that from which tho trnnk was taken, but says sho paid no attention when sho heard tho window raised, supposing that tho maid of tho house was there "A stlch in timo" often saves consumn- tion. Tho North Main street pavements aro pretty badly cut up by tho work of connect ing properties with tho now sewer, but they will soon be in good condition again. There aro many Inquiries as to why tho street paving work is stopped. Tho borough authorities and contractors say they aro waiting for tho grade of tho electric road to be changed. The regular monthly meeting of tho Borough Council will bo held to-morrow evening. Sequel tt a Stubbing. Thcro is another inquiry as to whether friends of tho teachers who may win tho Niagara Falls and Boston trips will bo al lowed to accompany them. Certainly, but not at tho oxpenso of, or through any special arrangement by tho Herald. In tho case of tho World's Fair trip tho Hi:rald will havo a special excursion arranged so that tho two winning teachers will havo tho company of a limited number of friends. And, perhaps, thoro will bo arrangements for tho two next highest teachers to go on tho same train to Niagara Falls. Tho latter arrangement may bo feaslblo, as tho World's Fair oxcursiou is to bo by way of tho Falls. Thoso who took part in tho proceedings were Messrs Conry, O'llcarn, Gallagher, Hanna, J. Brcnuan, Muldoon, P. Brcnnan and Lynch. Tho meeting was of short duration and tho most important action was tho adoption of a resolution bearing upon tho protest against tho olection of Mr. M. P. Whitaker as superintendent of tho schools. A request that tho board allow tho local post offlco civil servico examinations, fixed for Juno 21th, to bo held in ono of tho school rooms was granted. USE DANA'S SAESAPABILLA ,its "THE KIND THAT CURES." A Iteport Corrected. Editor Herald : In justico to all con cerned I feel called upon to stato that the report of the Lakesido committee meeting of Monday evening last, published in last even ing's Republican, was so incorrect that it impresses ono as having been purposely garbled. In tho first placo I did not state to the meeting that Mr. Kclm bad assured me that nothing could be expected from the privileges. What I did Bay was that Mr. Keim had said that tho people holding yearly privileges at Lakeside park were paying one commission to tho owners of tho park and ho did not think thoy would bo willing to pay an additional commission to outside parties. I also submitted to the committeo a list of tho yearly privileges and tho names and ad drosses of tho holders, all given mo by Mr. Keim, bo that tho committeo could write and see if any commission could be secured. Tho Republican's report also says a motion that "Wo do not go to Lakesido on August 15th" was carried without a dissenting voice. This part of the minutes was also badly garbled. John W. Morgan made such a motion, but tho vote was 4 in favor and 4 against. Chair man Edward Reese oast tho deciding vote, declaring the motion carried. W. J. Watkins, Secretary of Committee.
