Denver, Col., May 15. Govcrno- Walts has transmitted a communication to Presi dent Cleveland relating to the recent In dian troubles iu which he recites in very plain language the cunses that have led to the recent outbreaksutid directly charges tho Indian agents with negligence and In competency: He says: "From the best information I can get the outbreak in New Mexico was the re ult of abuse and Insult by drunken nnd renegade Indians, The periodical troubles in Colorado result from the fact that tho Indians nro allowed by tho United States Indian agents to wander away from their reservation." Governor Walte nlso says that the In dians as well ns tho government aro being systematically robbed by some of tho agents, and this, In his opinion, accounts for nil the trouble that has arisen. Tho treasury de partment has not received any official no tice of the action of the World's Fair com mission on the Sabbath closing question, liut Assistant Secretary Curtis, who has charge of all that matter, had n con ference with Mr. Carlisle on the matter, and evidently prepared a plan for action, but he refuses to tulk until some official notice is brought to the departmeut. "I cannot anticipate what will be done," be said. "Attorney General Olney's opinion already given iu the case covers borne of the points, but further than this I cannot say." It can be stated, however, that the gov ernment does not intend to sit idly by and see the Exposition authorities violate the law. Action will probably be taken bo fore May 21, the day set for the opening, nnd the Fair people will no doubt feel the strong arm of the law. Those Pension Frauds Again. Washington, May 15. It is stated at the pension office that up to last Thursday the pension examiners now in Norfolk, Va., investigating the claims filed by Pension Attorney Drewry bad completed fourteen coses, all of which had been found to be irregular or fraudulent. The pension of ficials are searching the claims tiled by Drewry which had been allowed and so far 100 have been found and forwarded to the examiners at Norfolk. No computation of tho amounts paid on these claims have been made, but as all of them were filed under the act of June 27, 1890, which al lows $12 per mouth as the maximum rate, it is probable that the average will fall bo low $200 each. Mr. Drewry is now serving a one year term in jail for fraudulent transactions in pension cases. THE SOLDIERS' MONUMENT. Nearly Three Hundred Dollars Added to the Fund. Tho canal company owns a private telegraph line from Grey- town on the gulf coast, to Fort San Cnrlon, on Lake Nicaragua, where it connects with the government line to San Juan del Sur, which connects with the City of Mexico, over which line all communications re ceived hero must come. Two battles fought nearMnsayn have re suited in favor of the revolutionists, whost superior artillery caused the governmun1 troops heavy losses. San Juan del Sur is known to be in the hands of tho revolutionists and it is sup posed that thu entire country traversed by the Ban Juan river and the iNlcarainra canul is also held by the insurgents. But even If it were not there would beuo chnnca of sending news out by way of San Juat del Sur without having it revised by th revolutionists, except to send it south hi water to Port Union In Costa Rica, where it would catch one of the Royal Mail steam ers. This would necessitate a delay of seve ral days. Ex-Senator Warner Miller has beeq called out of tho city on business up th state, und left without apprehension ol any danger to the interests of the canal, whatever might be the state of affairs 1 the country.
