Done In Hie Matter Until the Ktnergeaey Arrives No Aeilon 'luken Only In Hie Form of Personal I,ttrra of Warning Prof mm for the New York Naval Kvtw. WABrtiKOTOrT, April 90. At the treasury department yesterday It wan emphatically denied that aay enter bad yet been lamed to stop the redemption la gold of the treas ury note of 1800, and the statement was made that absolutely nothing would lie done until the emergency arrived. If any action has been taken it it probably in the form of a letter of warning of a personal character to the assistant treasurer in New York, informing him what the policy of the treasury department will be in cose the fie geld entirely disappeared, Vtwt which illicit t be used as an ordor If necessary. It Is believed that so far aa possible the western banks will come to the aid of the secretary of the treasury and supply him with sufficient gold to meet the present de mand. It is stated that the isruauca of bonds would probably be the lnat method that the secretary would turn to if u crisis should arise. The policy of- the depart ment would likely be, first, the stoppage of the gold payment on the treasury notes; second, the use to n certain extent of the gold reserve, and Anally the bond issue. If the last course was Anally reached, it itt thought that they would not be disposed of on this side of the water, as this would only bring n temporary relief. In this con nection the visit of J. Pierpent Morgan, of this olty, just before his departure for Eurojie and his consultation wl 'li Mr. Car Halo are re-called. It was stated In pirMS dispatches that if Mr. Morgan had any mifwion to perform for this country it was probably the arrangement for the dispo sition in foreign countries of bonds in case they were issued. This belief is now strength sned. Secretary Carlisle stated yesterday nfter noon that lie had $1, 178,000 free gold in the United States treasury. This was ob tained Tuesday and yesterday principally from the west in exohange for small notes and relieves the tension at least for the present. Secretary Carlisle declined to dis cuss the present situation or the probabill tiee of future nation. Naval Review Program. Washinoton, April 20.
