Tub February elections aro but little
more than a month ofl, and the voters
of Shenandoah aud other districts
should see to it that the right kiud of
nominations are made for responsible
positions. When an ofllclal has at
tended to his duties faithfully and
done his best to guard the public- in
terests committed to his care, it is wise
to continue him in the position for
another year. The mere fact that
tomebody else wants the place is not
a good leason for a change under such
. circumstances. On the other hand,
neglect or Incompetence is an amply
tufllcient reason for placing the trust
in the hands of a person better fitted
to hold it.
Hon. Matthew Stanley Quay
needs no further vindication. He has
tuccessfully passed through nil the
abuse and mud-throwing. He braved
the charges made against him; he ap

made against him by the Democrats
and their allies, the Mugwump Re
