The little medal of American tin plate entitled "Harrlsoultaid and Protection, 1802," had been largely used for distribution among Bcliool children of the city of New York until last week, when the Free Trade Demo cratic Board of Education of this city became greatly alarmed lest some of the Democratic parents should learn through the little ones of the benellts of tho Protective policy. Quickly the Police Board ordered that this distribution, which was strictly within the law, should be stopped and a representative of The League distri buting medals to the school children, after they had left theschoolroom and were on their way home, were ordered to stop under penalty of arrest. We trust that every Protection news paper in this coimtry will let its read ers know of this attempt to prevent the distribution of wholesome matter teaching the principles of Protection. As a result, however, of the publicity in New York City, tho school children jare taking it Into their own hands and every day besiege The League rooms for quantities of the tiu.plate medals for distribution. We grant that it may not be pleas ant for a Democratic lather to have his child come home pinging: Protection's banner guards our land. From England's creed and pauper pay, And when I play Great Britain's band, Please taao me for a IJLOOMING JAY, and asking what it means, but this is the very purposo of tliedlstrlbution It is our idea that if the children in the home can bring the subject to the attention of parents great good will result. The school children of New York City will receive these medals notwithstanding the attempts of the Free-Trade oligarchy to prevent it. American Economist. DON'T BE DECEIVED. General Master Workman T. The Woman's Journal doea not like the nomination of Mra. Victoria Woodhull Mrtln for the Presidency It says : Mrs. Victoria Woodhull Mitrtlu has been nominated for Presi dent of the United States by the sultrnglsts. The Democrats and Be' publicans of this country havo their recogulzed national organizations, and have nominated respectively Cleveland and Harrison for the Presi dency. If a dozen unauthorized and irresponsible peworiB, calling them selves Bepublicans or Democrats, should meet and nominate some one else, it would not be proper to say that the Republicans or the Democrats had nominate So-aud-fe'o The suf fragists of this country have their national organization, with abou' thirty state tocteties auxiliary to it. They have made no nomination for President of tho United States. The alleged nomination is the act of a few wholly irresponsible persons.' With the exception of the candidate her self, not one of tho women said to have taken part In the so-called con vention Is known to us even by name. The suHi-agists of the United States realize that It would be altogether premature lor them to set up a candi date for tho Presidency while women have no votes; and if they were to nominate anybody, it would certainly not be Airs. All that was mortal of Lord Tcnuyson was yesterday interred in Westminster Abbey with most im presslvo services. Ths nssemblngo In the Abboy was adi tltiguished one. The Premier of Eugland, Mr. Gladstone, was represented by Hon, Arthur Lyttleton; tho Prlnco of Wales, by General Probyii, ot his Household; tho Duke of Edinburgh, by his private secre tary, Hon. William James Cllvillc; tba Duke of York, heir presumptive, by Sir Francis Wintou, and the British Govern ment by Hon. II. II. Asquith, the Homo Secretary. Walter Ilesant and many other prominent men of letters were present. The scene va8 most impressive. The Abbey choir was covered with a rich hauging of purple velvet. The nave was lined on both sides with orphan boys from tho hospital founded by Gen. Gor don, un institution In which Tennyson took a marked sympathetic IntoreBt. The boys woro a modifled Scotch uniform and carried themselves with military pre cision. Along the aisle were also scattered the few survivors of the Light Brigade, the fame of whose lialaklava charge has been made perpetual by Tennyson's poem. Most ot them wore tho brilliant red uni form of Chelsea pensioners, and all had broad bands of crape on their arms. At noon the sun burst out in full splen dor from tho haze whicli had hitherto partially obscured its rays and tho interior of tho Abbey was gloriously illumined, bringing out all the beauties of the sculpture and carving. A moment later Sir Henry Ponsonby, the Queen's Private Secretary, entered St. Faith's Chnpel, and ou behalf of Her Majesty placed a beautiful wreath upon the colIin. Sir Henry then proceeded to the Dean of Westminster's stall, where he sat ns representative of tho Queen. The Archbishops of Canterbury and York occupied sub-deans' stalls. They were placed in the Jerusalem Chamber, and were found to amount to several wagon-loads. Only a few of the most choice or appropriate designs wore placed near the gruve. One of these was composed of laurel gathered In Shake speare's garden at Stratford. Another wreath conspicuously placed was one orderod by tho Tennyson Club ot Arkansas and Missouri. It was composed of roses and chrysanthemums and was of especially beautiful design. Mary Anderson sent a mat of laurel, violets and white may. At half past twolve o'clock a stir around tho door of St. Faith's Chapel at tracted tho attention of the waiting au dienco iu the Abbey, and alt eyes wero directed to the spot. First appeared the officiating clergy, then the coffin, which bore only the rrreaths contributed by the Queen and members ot tho lamlly. The pall was uu ordinary Union Jack. It was borne on the right hand by Lord Salisbury, the late Premier; Earl Sel boruo, Lord Rosebery, Minister of Foreign Atlairs, aud others. Immediately behind the coffin walked tho rjoet's son, Hallam Tennyson, with bis wife and children, and some intimate friends of the family. The procession passed through the cloisters and tho nave to the altnr, where tho coffin was placed upon trestles and the religious ceremony was conducted, tho Archbishop of Canterbury officiating, assisted by tho dean and canons. A number of Americans wero present. At the gruve Dean Bradley bald the prayer, the collect und tho benediction and the great crowd dispersed ns the notes of the dead march from "Saul" sounded through the Abbey. There was no procession from the Abbey at tli close of the service. THE LAKE FRONT CASE. Argument in tlie Suit Invulvhic tha Lund Occupied by the Illinois Central. Wasiiinoton, Oct. 18.
