"When tho Demo cratic chorus opened in full cry on "Dave" Martin last week it was ovldent to any ono familiar with Democratic ways that there was some fraudulent schomo afoot from which they wished to draw attontlon by alleging Bepublican attempts at fraud. Thoy havo attacked Mr. Mattin because they wero afraid of him. He is a practical politician, and they wore torriflod lest ho might find out their own attempts at fraud and nullify them. Therefore thoy tegan to abuse and vilify him. It is an old Democratic dodge. But Mr. Martin didn't scare J neither did tho Bopffblicans gonorallyj and now wo see just what it was tho Domocrats wished to cover up with their cry of "stop thief." Mr. Martin has discovered an extensive and systematic plan for colonization by which the Domocrats had hoped to swoll their voto on election day. Tho Bowery lodging houses are filled with repeaters, and overy proprietor of a divo or a dance house on Cherry Hill or Water street or in tho Mulborry Bend is expected, in return for Tammany police protection, to furnish two or threo extra Democratic voters. Thoentuo details of thonofariousschemo are now in tho hands of the Bepublican National Committeo, and no offort will be spared to make it impossiblo for the Dem ocratic repeaters and tramps to get in their votes where they do not oolong. Meantime we must expect that a greater howl than ever will bo raised about that dreadful "Davo" Martin and his schemes. Thieves and robbers always dislike tho do- tectivos who oxposo their wickedness. THAT BEaOIKQ LETTER. The pluto Democratic manager of Mr. Cleveland's convention and of his cam paign, Mr. William 0. Whitney, of this city, has conceived tho sly schemo of pro tending that the Democratic National Committeo is out cf funds, and that tho Bepublican Committeo has a magnificent surplus of cash. Tho purpose of this is to ward off domands for money from Demo cratic workers, and to inspire Bepublicans with tho idea that thoy can draw on their party managers for unlimited amounts of cash; The Democratic appeal for funds is sigaed by Messrs. Harrity and Dickinson, and is a most pieposterous thing. It donouncos the manufacturers, as all freo traders do, but wo hardly understand how Mr. Whitney can undertake to denounco rich men" and "corporation" on tho Bepublican side without striking himself and some othor supporters of Grovor Clevoland. The lettor also has tho assur ance to denounce the "political intimida- and dobauchery" of the Bepublican party and to protest against crimes affecting tho purity of tho ballot. This, in the Tammany center, is rick indood. Mr. Whitney's begging circular Is a fraud and a sham, because at its close it shows that no funds aro neoded, for it stales that "Cleveland's defeat is not possible." Beyond all this, we know that the New York World claims to have raised ?32,749 for tho Cleveland corruption fund. Surely this has not been used already. Tho bost information at hand shows that the Demo cratic National Committee, since Mr. Whitney has taken it in charge, ha3 a good deal more money than will meet all honest requirements of a Presidential campaign. If it runs a little short, Mr. Whitnoy has only to put his hand in his deep pocket to make tho deficit good. SKIES URIOIIT. The outlook for an old-fashioned Bo publican victory is indeed bright. Kvery ono about the Bepublican headquarters is In good humor and working like beavers. Thero aro no drones among tho committee men all have their coats off and attend ing to business. Senator Quay is expected hero next week and will lend his services in unearth. Ing and preventing frauds Upon the ballot With Quay and Martin attending to this part of the campaign, and "Charley" Yoohees assisting, thero need be no fears of tho result. II o ward. A Mistake In the Century Dictionary Is hard to find. Its definition of the word "dolicious," however, contains an error of omission. Tho definition, "Pleasing in the highest degree; most sweet or grateful to the senses, as a delicious viand," would havo been much more suggestive and in tolliglblo If it bad read "as a delicious Ferris Ham." Nothing liko a concrete illustration, you know. Vat Almost Nothing. While it is over thirty yoars ago since Allcock's Porous Flatters were first intro duced to the medical profession and public, tho marked success and unprecedented popularity which thoy have met with not only continues, but steadily increases. No othor plastors havo been produced which gain so many testimonials of high value as those continuously accorded to Allcock's Porous Plastors, and the only motive for these exceptional tributes lies in tho fact of their being a medicinal and pharmaceu tical preparation of superior value. Addi tional proof of tho true value of Allcock's Porous Plasters lies In tho fact that they aro being largely imitated by unscrupulous persons, who seek to deceive the public by offering plasters which thoy claim to be the "same," "equal," "a9 good," "better," "best porous plastors," etc., while it is In general appearance only that they resemble Allcock's. Every ono of tho so-called porous plasters aro imitations of Allcock'B Porous Plastors.
