RAILWAY AND OTHER MATTERS
Tho Pennsylvania "and Reading
Railroad Companies at Logger
beads A Bogus Mr. Jaok
eon Flouts About Town.
E may expect lively
news in connection
with the construction
of the Ponntylvnnla
Railroad's Girardvillo
branch. Tho com
piny'B turveys lined
tho routo on the
mountain south of the
Turkey Run colliery breaker, but a change
was made ncctsjary on account of tho P.
fc R. 0. & I. Co, building a plotforra eo as
to cross tho lino, Tho "Ponnsy" company
has now decided to build tho lino lower
down and run under a portion of tho
breaker and then trestle over the olectric
railway and connect with the original route
south of tho Win, Ponn turnplko. To get
undor the breaker It will bo necessary for
tho "Penney" to cut away timbers to make
a passage wido enough and when tho work
ot making tho passage begins tho fun will
bloom. Italians have started work on the
now branch near tho Shenandoah Citj
colliery and tho Turkey Run colliery
episode will not materialize forsuveral days
to come. .
I notice a paragraph in the Bluefield,
(W. Vn.) Railway and Mining Journal
that speaks as lollows concerning one ot
our townsmen : "Mr. Harry S. Roughey,
of Philadelphia, Pa., has accepted a
position in Jlisi Wildor's barber shop. He
is a first class artist and is making many
friends by his amii.blo manner and eaby
workmanship."
The action of tho Borough Council In
adopting an ordinance authorizing the
borrowing ol money for public wator
works is a subject of considerable discus
sion. A quotuon has been raised as to
whether or not the Councilmon who Toted
for tho adoption have violated the injunc
tion granted by the court and which is
still in force pending argument. If there
is a violation the members who so voted
are liable to be hauled up for contempt of
court.

been trying to compel employes to deal at cer

complish good. 2V- Weekly Record.
Only one thing remains to bring the mat-
tor to an issue and that is the appointment
by tho P. & R. Company of soaio noutral
party to conduct an investigation. The
names of people and places are ready for
dolivory to such a party. The complain
ing parties refuse to give the facts for pub
lication until the Reading Company makes
a sorious attempt to show that it does not
countenance company stores. In other
words tho complainants are not disposed to
placo tho ammunition in tho hands of tho

Tho following personal was handed to us
last evening for publication, with a request
that a copy of the paper be sent to Ash
land : "It. O. Jackson, ox-superintendont
of the Railway Mail Sorvico; was a visitor
to town to-day, Mr. Jackson is a distant
rolative of tho late Secretary Folgor."
This Mr. "Jacksen" must bo a fraud.
R. O. Jackson is new superintendent of
tho Railway Mail (Service, Now York
division. lie is not in tho habit of bum
ming around tho country and knocking a
barkeeper's eye out for a drink after herald
ing his namo and position, Tho worthy
superintendent is altogether a difibrent
kind of a man and he has two arms not
one, as is tbo case with tho alleged Mr.
"Jackson," I think Mr. "Jackson" wasted
timo hero.

Tho deadlock in tho Mahanoy township
school board continues, and, since-tho meet

Tho nzleton Plain-Speaker says: "Paul

many pigeons he has numerous Antwerp

of his in Mahanoy City two eggs laid by
ono of bis celebrated carriers for hatching
purposes as the friend wished to havo
several of that kind am6ng his flock. As

S. G. M. Hollopeter, Esq., T. R. Beddall,

man of the meeting. 'Squire Monaghan
and Mr. Hollopeter stated that the neces

and thd 'squire added that tho only differ

Ho produced a map which, ho thought,
showed n fair division.
Aftor considerable discussion over tho

give the petitioners until tbo 27th inst. to

Monaghan was opposed to any delay, but
the Colonol ovorruled his objection.
There now appears to be no doubt about
a division being made. In fact it doos not
seem that tbo viewers will consider that
question at all, but will devoto the atten

POLITICAL POINTS.
Local, Comity, State and National Theme
Considered,

If Congress had remained in session

As it is, they have a fighting chance to

is against them.
Toll those "protection Democrats" if
you can find them that their room is bet

Democrats at all. They are Republicans,
and, if they bo honest men, thoy will voto

Now that Congress has put up tho shut

unsuccessfully, just four years ago. A lit

Tho funoral of the lato Jacob Louokb
took placo yesterday and was largely at
tended. Of Interest to Athletes,
James Robinson, tho athletic tralnor at
Princeton Oollego, Princeton, N. J., says:
"I have foutd it imperative to havo sura
and simple remedies on hand in cat q of
cuts, bruises, strains, sprains, colds, rheu
matism, otc. Shortly after entering upon
my profession, I discovered such a romedy
in Allcock's Porous Plasters. I tiled
other plasters, but found them too harsh
and irritating, Allcock's Porous Plasters
give almost instantaneous relief, and their
strengthening power is remarkable. In
cases of weak back put two plasters on tho
small ol tho back and In a short time you
will be capable of quite severe exercise.
In "sprint" and "distance" races and
jumping, the muselos or tendons in the logs
and feet sometimes weaken. This can in
variably be relieved by cutting the plaster
in narrow strips, so as to give free motion,
and applying on muscles affected."
