"The New York Press says tbe soldiers of tho country should not be deceived by Democratic assurances of love and protection. The records of the Democratic candidates Bhow the sort of friendship they bear for the boys lu blue. Grover Cleveland was a Democrat 'throughout the war. He sent a sub stltute to battle for his country while he reposed in ease in his Buffalo home. As President he vetoed pension bill after pension bill, against the advice of Dqrnqcratlo Congressmen wLn vouched for the justice of the claims. No man can show a single benefit con ferred on soldiers by tho Cleveland administration. "General" Stevenson during the war also, remained at home, but was bolder than his New York confrere. He stumped the state of Illinois ouch year of the war for Democratic candi dates who declared the war a failure and insUted that Jrfl D.ivls was a martyr. Mr. Cleveland and Sir. Stevenson both earnestly supported the Demo cratic platform of 1864, the principal plank of which read; Resolved, That this convention doos explic itly declare as the beiise of tho American peo ple, that alter four years of failure to restore the .Union by tho experiment of war, during which, under tho pretense .of a military neces sity or war power higher than the Constitution, the Constitution Itself has been disregarded In, every part, and public liberty and private right alike trodden down and tho material prosperity of tho country essontlally Impaired Justice humanity, liberty and tho publlo welfare de mand that immediate, efforts bo made for a cossatlonof hostilities, with a view to an ultl mate convention of tho states, or other peace able means, to the end that at the earliest prac tlcable moment peace may bo restored. This, resolution was passed In August of 16(54, when Grant was marching upon Richmond for the last grapple with the.dyiug Confederacy, and at a time when the only hope of the youth was In Northern disunion and luk6 warmuees. During this same period Benjamin Harrison was dally risking his life In his country's service, and Whitejaw iReid, by his graphic pen pictures of battle scenes sent from the front, was rousing the North to a last grand struggle. Can there be any doubt as to which la the soldiers' ticket? Pay uo attention to the stories in tho Democratic organs about Republi can dissatisfaction. There is none. Republicans, are in for a fight,, and a fight for victory. Victory will baours in November, and don't you forget it! The first thing Mr. Cleveland has to do if he wants to bo President Is to get rid of,,eomo..of ,t,he , asses. rN. Y Sun. '-Nice name -for tho mugwump.
