Scott and Leuker, National delegates to the Republlc&u convention, ore being lionized becnuee, It is asserted, they did their duty. Evidently doing one's duty in politics is a rare virtue in some political circles. To tho care ful observer there la a flavor about this whole business that smacks very much of an attempt on tho part of certain politicians, who have been known in tho past to be derelict in the performance of their duty, to 6eek to cover their own shortcomings and at the same time give themselves a boost, by exalting the virtues of others. For example there is Jack Whltehouse and It. H. Koch ou the rostrum pouring forth the pent up eloquence of their virtuous souls at the Lenker ovation Wednesday night at Schuyl kill Haven. It Is also a remarkable omission that the name of that other Statesman on principle, Hon. S. C. Losch, Is omitted from the list of orators. What political secrets lie burled under the bosom of his ample shirt front. What an interesting tale he could tell were he minded to elucidate just a little bit. Scott and Lenker sup ported Harrison because they were sent to the convention for that pur pose. Having done their duty It is not necessary to set up either or both of them as little tin gods. The gall of the Republicans who are crying themselves hoarse over the renomination of Harrison and de nouncing those who favored Blaine is the pure old-time hypocritical stud. These very shouters are the men who knifed the nominees of tho .Repub lican party the past four years and now they take all the credit for Har rison's renomination. If these people ure serious In their claim for credit for the renomination, and serious hi their pledges to support the ticket, let them keep In mind Harrison's use ot Liu coin's declaration, "With malice to wards none." This is no time for breeding dissensions. Now is tho time to organize and organize thor oughly for the election of Harrison and Beid, and iu that work Blaine, Clarkeou, Piatt aud Quay can do in valuable work. Hence, let there be peace and let the Ilopubllcans of all factions In this country put their shoulders to the wheel to help elect the whole Republican ticket, from the Poor Director to the President, like wise the Senator In the 29th district and the candidates for the Legislature. If our Republican contemporaries below the mountain and the few of their most interested friends are wise they will stop their funny business and get down to solid work. Claiuceon, Pratt, Quay, Miller aud Foraker will all fall In line and help to elect Harrison and Reid. Unlike the shouters who put the great clerical figure-head Into the Gubernatorial chair, they are true to their colon. Is "Jim" Franey serious when he says to the people of Shenandoah, "Now that you have voted to In crease the borough debt I will give vou a brewerv." Whether ho Is or not, uobrewery will come until "Jim" is sure It will pay-and pay well. It was a mluUter who defeated Blaine for President In 18S4, and It was a minister who defeated him for the nomination In 1802. CHURCH ANNOUNCEMENTS.
