From this sum must be deducted $1,019.05 exonerations and J021 for water sup plied the llro plugs, and Hint will leave u net duplicate of Si9.332.-15. Now If tbe water company, with no cTpetUlonTcauJ only show a dupli cate for that amount, how cau the joint committee expect a revenue of $30,000 annually? llEFEitniNO to the water company's plaut the members of the joint com mittee say in their circular : "We are willing to recommend a fair price for It, making duo allow ances for the inadequacy of the present pipe system and water supply in proportion to the tize of the town, its population and value of its prop erty; also the prospective destruction of the present reservoirs at no distant day by the mining operations soon to be commenced under them. We make this statement that the public may not be misled by any purchased or prejudiced misrepresentations of the committee's feelings on the ques tion or tbelr duty to the people." Let tbe taxpayers read the above quotation carefully. It places the Joint committee on record as being willing to recommend a price to be paid by the borough for a plant which they say is doomed to destruc tion at no distant day. Mark it well. In its statement to the public the joint commlttoe tries to make capital of an item paid the Herald for publish' lng a statementofthe joint committeo The truth in regard to tho matter la this: Councilman Xiauib caused the publication on the statement that it was the same the News had already published and that neither of the papers would be paid for It. The Hehald subsequently learned that the Xfcwa was to be paid for the publi cation and took the stand that if tho committee paid ono paper It would have to pay two. Tho News received pay and so did the Herald. It was only a question of making fish of one and llesh of tho other.aud the Hep.ald took a position It was perfectly justi fied in taking. The address of the water company to the taxpayers of the borough relative to the proposed Increase of debt should be read carefully. It Is signed by such men as John A. Lewis, J. K. P. Scheifly, F. J. I'orlz, John Roberts, 8. A. Beddall, Charles Bow man, Michael O'Hara, Edward M. Bronnan, SI. C. Watson, Michael TIerney, J. S. Kistler, M. D., M. I Fowler, Lowis Klein, M. Heisenber- ger, Peter Illley, C. W. Dengler, John MIeldarls, Charles 12. Titman, M. Bmarowsky, Sylvester Pappert, Pat rick Ryan and Martin Purcell, all property owners and taxpayers In the town. The joint committee figures the cost of the land on which the streams they propose taking aro located at $45 per acre, or $900 for tho twenty acres required. No sane man will believe for a moment that the land can be pro cured for such a plttanco, by right of eminent domain or auy other right. If ex-Beuator Torbert Is willing to release his land at (45 per acre he has lost his cunning as a financier. It Should be in Every House. J. 11. Wilion, 871 01y St, Sh&rpeburjr. The doctor says AVOID GREASE and the result is unpalata ble food. The reason the physician objects to grease is because lard is the article most used, and every phy sician knows that hog lard in any shape is unhealthy and indigestible. Every one interested in pureand healthful food hails with joy the new product which is composed of pure cottonseed oil and pure beef suet nothing else not even salt. It is better than cither lard or butter for all cooking purposes, and one pound of Cottolcne will do as much as two pounds ol' lard or butter, and it costs less than either. Every housekeeper that tries Cottolene will find in it just what she wants. Beware of imitations get the geniune of your grocer. M. K. FAIRBANKS CO., CHICAGO, and 138 N. Delaware Ave., Phlla.
