Tbe Citizens' borough convention was
held last night In Oliver's hotel. All the
conferoes elected at the recent primaties
wero present. They wero Mess s. Charles
Oibion, Adam ilort, Jame3 Tempest, Fust
ward; A. Woomer, R. D. Uagenbuch, P.
Sullivan, Second ward; R. A. Davenport,
Robert Oliver, Owtn Thomas, Third ward;
T. "W. Powell, Michael Brown, Daniel
Rttigol, Fourth ward; Joseph Temple,
James Morgan, Christ, fr'oltz, Filth ward.
R. A, Davenport was made chairman ol
tha convention and Thomas W. Powell
secrolary.
James B. Ld.-sig was re-nominated for
Cbiet Burgers by acclamation and, 011
motion ol Owen Thomas, John F. Uiggins,
tho candidate on the Democratic ticket for
re-election as Receiver of Taxes, was

Tho candidates made brief addresses,
than!-ing the conferees, and James Tem
pest responded for his brother, the candi

hour or two conferees and candidates had a
lolly time. The fun was Interspersed with
serious talks on the ticket. It was declared
an excellent one and pledges wero made to
work industriously for its success.

Forty-one members of tho Citizens'
party and a number of spectators assombled
in Schmidt's ball last night to too what tho
party would do about putting a ticket up
in the Fifth ward. The meeting was a
very harmonious one. John L. Uassler
called the meeting to order and was madd
chairman. "William 11. Reinbuld Was
made secretary and "William H. Bacbmau
and Richard Ilsese secretaries.

Council by acclamation,
Samuel Roberts, for School Director,
Edward Mason, forjudge of Election, and

Jere. Roxby and Jumus Morgan were

Obituary.
Clement S. Foster died at his homo in
Pottsville yostorday in his C9ih year. The
deceased was one of tho oldest and bet
known residdnts of this county. II 0 was a
native of Portsmouth, Now Uampshlro,
but had been a resident of Pottsvillo since
boyhood, bis parents having located at
that place then. Mr. Foster conducted a
shoe store In this town about sixteen yoirs
ago. Ho then went to Ashland and later
returned to Pottsvillo. A widow and six
children survive the deceased. T. J, Fos
ter, formerly of town, but now of Scran
ton, is one of his nephews. Kufus J,
Foster, also uow of Scranton, is ono of his
sons.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Milos. of West
Laurol street, celebrated their silver wed
ding last evening, thero being quito a
number of Invited guests present. The
gills were costly and numerous. Suppor
was servod at 12 o'clock alter which danc
ing was engaged in until early morn.

town from Now York this aftornooo and
will remain hero until Monday, The

Rev. H. G. James and Wife Cele
brate Their Anniversary.
Rev. H. G. James, pastor ol tho English
Baptist church, and wife, celebrated tho
25th anniversary of their marriage last
ovening, at their residence on "West Coal
street. About sixty members of the con
gregation wero present and gave tho
clergyman and bis wife a handsome silver
tea service. Toe presentation was made
by Thomas Hough and Rev. James ac
cepted the gift gracefully, after which a
bounteous supper, prepared in excellent
style by Mrs. James, was served. Singing
of "Praiso God From "Whom All Blessings
Flow" and prayer by Doacon Pillinger fol
lowed. Most of the congregation will ba
poets now, as they sat in Rev. James'
bardic chair.
This morning Rev. and Mrs. James re
ceived a very beautiful and costly present
