It will be forty inches iu length and four and a half inches in width, or about thir teen inches square. The shape lias not yet be6n decided upon. The new ballot law, which goes into eflect with the November election, provides that the ballots shall contain the names of all the candidates to be voted for. It has not yet been definitely settled whether the nominees of the .three parties Republican, Democrat and Prohibition shall be placed side by side on the ticket, making three columns, or one under the other in single column. The tickets will te bound in book form, two on a page, separated by n perforated line. The outside ticket will be torn out and voted and the other will remain in the book, a mute recorder of the fact that its companion has hem deposited iu the ballot bo::. The tickets used at the November election will be larger than will ever be used under the present condition of things. They will contain the names of all the Presidential Electors of the three parties, together with the names of the candidates for Congress, Sena tor, Representatives, Judge, District Attorney and Poor Director a larger number of candidates than will be voted for at other subsequent' elections. One of the reasons for the great popularity ot Governor Foraker, in Ohio, is that he is bo thoroughly hated by the Democracy. The Ohio Repub licans think there must be something stalwart iu a muurs Republicanism who is so hated by the Democra'e. The Oouncilmen who showed up for business wero Messrs, Gable, Limb, James, Amour, llopkln?, tnan, Ojakley, Warm, Uetteridgu and Soheifly. Tho committee on roads and highways had nothing to report, savo that the super visor wa kept busy cutting ice to clear tho guttors. The lamp and Wat h committee roported Chief of Police Amour still upon the sick list and P. II. Hopkins, Sr., filling his placo. Policeman Williams also sick and Anthony Alex, the Polish special officer of the First ward filling his place. Mr Amour is so ill he will not bo ahlo to re sumo duty for at least a month to come, Mr. Williams is not as bad. Mr. "Wurm asked Council wbethor it intended paying out salaries for sovon policomon iho five regulars and two specials he thought it too expensive. II 0 was of tho opinion that substitutes could be done away with and three policemen could protect the town as in former years. The matter was laid over until the next meeting. The law committee roported that tho injunction suit of the Shenandoah Wator and Qas Company against the borough will be tried on Monday, next. Also that negotiations for settlement of tho Burke case are pending. Mr. Betterldge said the work of repairing tho lockup should bo pushed mora vigor ously. He also complained that a prisoner smashed the seat board in one of the colic and stuffed a loaf of bread down into the trap, blocking it. He said the police should carefully inspect the colls. Mr. Hopkins said that the paid police search every prisoner and take bottles and all weapon from thorn. They also .search the cells be ioro locking prisoners up and after releas ing tbem, Tho constables are the people who should be looked too, he said. Mr. Ballny, of Bailey & Anderson, di rectory compilers, appeured and asked Council for an appropriation. lis said h Shonandoah - Mabanoy City directory will be I-sued during the first part of iii.it month, Mr. Lamb said bo would like ti assist the firm by purchasing some of the directories or making an appropriation but ho thought Council would exceed iu authority by doing so. "Tho money is needed for other purposos," ho said, 'this has been the rapst expensive year of my term. Wo have spent $5,000 more to date than in any of the two previous years."
