We regret to learn that Mrs. Lowry

is in very feeble health. Mrs. Lowry is
a sister of the late John W. and Abra-

many friends all hope she will recover
her former good health and live to
reach a much riper age.

William and Ross Enos, of Black

Lieutenant Samuel Lowry, of Salis-
bury, is spending a few days at the
home of his son, Attorney J. C. Lowry.
and incidentally giving the latter the
benefit of his experience in building.
Attorney Lowry is practically rebuild-
ing the old Metzler home, a stone
mansion a mile south of town, and
persons who have inspected the im-
provement say that he will have one of
the handsomest places in the county
when the work is completed, says the
Somerset Herald.
The editor is having his residence on
Grant street completely overbauled
and remodeled. When completed it
will not look like the same house, and,
in fact, it won’t quite be the same
house, as it will be much larger, and
will contain a steam heating plant,
sanitary plumbing, etc. We have not
lost confidence in Salisbury, and when-
ever this town doesn’t suit us, we will
shake its dust from our feet and move
elsewhere, as this old world is very
large, and the millionaires do not yet
own it quite all.
W. R. Ward, of Dyersburg, Tenn.
writes: “This is to certify that I have
used Foley’s Orino Laxative for chronic
constipation, and it has proven without
a doubt to be a thorough practical
remedy for this trouble, and it is with
pleasure I offer my conscientious refer-
ence.” Elk Lick Pharmacy, E. H. Mil-

A barn owned by Uriah Stanton,
near Grantsville, Md., was burned to
the ground, Tuesday night. The build-
ing stood near the Grantsville railroad
station and Eli Stanton’s mill, ani in
it was a hay-baling machine owned by
Jacob Folk, and worth about $400,
which also went up in smoke, together
with other contents owned by Mr.
Stanton. The total loss will probably
foot up to $2,500. There was some in-
surance on the barn, but none on Mr.
Folk’s hay-baler. The cause of the
fire is believed to be due to fishermen
sleeping in the barn at times, or to an
incendiary.
Mrs. S. Joyce, Claremont, N. H.,
writes: “About a year ago I bought
two bottles of Foley’s Kidney Remedy.
It cured me of a severe case of kidney
trouble of several years standing. It
certainly is a grand, good medicine,
and I heartily recommend it.” Elk

An editor approached St. Peter at

said: “Look this list over carefully

them inside, but a fellow slipped

the paper a year without paying for it,
and had the postmaster mark it ‘re-

Some time ago a couple of boys
entered John W. Ringler’s residence
while all members of the family were
out, and spying Mr. Ringler’s coat
hanging on the wall, proceeded to rifle
the pockets. They found a pocketbook
therein containing $40.00, and they ex-
tracted a ten-dollar bill therefrom, then
threw the pocketbook, with the balance
of the money in it, on the floor, where
it was found by a member of the
family. Two boys confessed to some of
their companions that they took the
money, but to Mr. Ringler they denied
it, and as there is no prrof in the case,
Mr. Ringler is out of pocket to the ex-
vent of $10.00, and that’s about all there
is to it, except that such stealing usual-
ly leads to greater crimes, and to the
penitentiary for the guilty ones.
