But with that way, two treatments, must be combined. One is local, one is constitu. sional, but both are important, both essential. Dr. Shoop’s Night Cure is the Local. Dr. Shoop's Restorative, the Constitutional. The former—Dr. Shoop’s Night Cure—is a topical mucous membrane suppository remedy, while Dr. Bhoop’s Restorative is wholly an internal treat- ment. The Restorative reaches throughout the entire system, seeking the repair of all nerve, all tissue, and all blood ailments. The “Night Cure”, as its name implies, does its work while you sleep. It soothes soreand inflame ed mucous surfaces, heals local weaknesses and discharges, while the Restorative, eases nervous excitement, gives renewed vigor and ambition, builds up wasted tissues, bringing about renewed strength, vigor, and energy. Take Dr. Shoop’s Restorative—Tablets or Liquid—as a general tonig to the system. Get from any prescription pharma- cist the following: Fluid Extract Dandelion, one-half ounce ; Compound Kargon, one ounce; Compound Syrup Sarsaparilla, three ounces. Shake well in a bottle and take a teaspoonful dose after each meal and at bedtime. The above is considered by an emi- nent authority, who writes in a New York daily paper, as the finest pre- scription ever written to relieve Back- ache, Kidney Trouble, Weak Bladder and all forms of Urinary difficulties. This mixture acts promptly on the eli- minative tissues of the Kidneys, en- abling them to filter and strain the uric acid and other waste matter from the blood which causes Rheumatism. Some persons who suffer with the afflictions may not feel inclined to place much confidence in this simple mixture, yet those who have tried it say the results are simply surprising, the relief being effected without the slightest injury to the stomach or other organs. Mix some and give it a trial. It cer- tainly comes highly recommended. It is the prescription of an eminent au- thority, whose entire reputation, it is said, was established by it. A druggist here at home when asked stated that he could either gupply the ingredients or mix the prescription for our readers, also recommends it as harmless. ir —— EDITOR LENOX A CANDIDATE. Editor John E. Lenox, of the Berlin Record, has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Clerk of the Courts. If elected he will undoubtedly make a good officer, for he is a man of acknowledged ability. as well as an all-around good fellow. In his paper he has always ch&mpioned the cause of the farmer, and like his supporters, he says he is opposed to eternally keeping the same men in of- fice. The Somerset Herald, in a recent issue, had the following to say, and everybody who is acquainted with Lenox and his ably edited paper will concur in the Herald’s opinion: “Editor John E. Lenox, of the Berlin Record, modestly announces his can- didacy in the last issue of his newsy journal for the Republican nomination for Clerk of Courts. One thing is obvi- ous, and that is that a man who can conduct a country weekly as ably as Lenox, can run any of the county offices satisfactorily to the voters.” It Remonstrances Against Two Som- erset County Hotels. Mr. Driscoll, superintendent of the Pittsburg division of the B. & O. rail- road, has written a letter to M. H. Fike, clerk of the courts, remonstrat- ing against the granting of a license to H. C. Farner, proprietor of the Sand Patch hotel. Mr. Drisco!l states in his letter that trains are frequently de- layed at Sand Patch, which he attrib- utes largely to the fact that trainmen trequent Mr. Farner’s bar room. The B.&O. is also back of a remon- strance filed against Hotel Waba=h. which is quite near the B.&O. station at Casselman, the railroad company malting allegations similar to those in the Sand Patch case. That saloons near railroad tracks ure a great menace to life and limb, is an undisputed fact. But it is equally true that they are an intolerable nuisance anywhere, at all times inciting trouble and bringing to the surface the worst elements in the make-up of their patrons. Of the Iiotel Wabash, we know nothing. But it must be said to the credit of Hotel Farner that it is not one of the joints at which only the booze end of the business is given at- tention. Its other accommodations are first class, and it is one of the best conducted hostelries in Somerset county. However, we feel sure that if Judge Kooser would grant license to sell liquor to no man, he would not only be doing the right thing from a moral standpoint, but he would be greatly elevated in the esteem of all the right- thinking people in Somerset county. PENROSE BEFRIENDS THE COUN- TRY PRESS. The rather peremptory and dictator- ial order of the Postoffice Department, that weekly newspapers shall not be permitted the privilege of the mails unless their subscription lists are paid up within one year, may have been well intended. but it wasill-considered, and it is certainly a stretch of author- ity. The law declares that all legitimate publications are entitled to the use of the mails at certain rates. No condi- tions as to the credit which the pub- lisher may see fit to extend to his sub- scribers are laid down in the statute. It is the right and the duty of the Postoffice Department to exclude from the mails all illegitimate publications, that is publications issued for the sole purpose of advertising, in other words bandbill publications; but it is the rankest injustice and the greatest folly to set up a general rule highlv oppres- sive to the rank-and-file of the country weeklies in order to catch a few of- fenders. No general rule can be es- tablished for particular cases. It is the duty of the department to sift the bad from the bunch and eliminate them by special process, not to cast a drag-net over the whole. We are informed that Senator Pen- rose, who is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Postoffices and Post roads, has interposed his objections, and has succeeded in having the rule suspended until April 1st, pending further investigation of its wisdom and justice. Senator Penrose is serving his news- paper constituency to some purpose, and he is making no exceptions of his enemies. In this respect, his action is more creditable than that of the late Senator Quay, who would have pun- ished his friends as well as his foes in the passage of an infamously unjust libel law.—Connellsville Courier. Unique Campaign Calendar. Attractive two color calendars adver- tising the candidacy of P. L. Liven- good, editor of THE SoMERsET COUNTY STAR, for the Assembly, are being dis- tributed throughout the county. For a unique campaign advertising scheme, “Pete’s” calendars take the lead. The card is 10x14 inches in size and is printed in black and red, producing a very showy effect. In the center of the upper part of the card, incased in a red border, is a fine half-tone picture of the fearless editor who aspires to represent Somerset county in the Lower house ut Harrisburg, below which appears his announcement, subject to the decision of the Republican voters. On the lower part of the card is a yearly calendar, the whole making a mighty clever piece of campaign advertising, The printing was done in “Pete’s” Star office. and reflects much credit upcn that establishment.—Berlin Record.
