Mr. Johnston’s ministrations to this church “continued until November, 1886, when he resigned to accept a call to the pastorate of the Emmitsburg Lutheran church, located in the state of Maryland, a few miles south of Get- tysburg. He continued in the Emmits- burg field 22 years, when in November, 1888, he accepted 8 call to the Stoys- town charge in Somerset county, Pa, in which county he has remained until the present time. His second field of labor in Somerset county was the Salis- bury charge, to which he went in May, 1894, and occupied that pastorate 10- years. His last charge and present feld of labor is composed of the Wel- lersburg and \hite-Oak churches in the same county. As a recognition of his valuable ser- vice to the church of his choice. as well as his scholarly attainments and ability as a gospel minister, the Susquehanna University, about 10 years ago, con- ferred upon him the degree of Doctor of Divinity. Dr. Johnston’s genial disposition and courteous treatment of all with whom he comes in contact, not only endear him to his own people, but also make him a favorite among those who affili- ate with other churches. It is quite refreshing to meet one of Dr. Johnston’s age who carries his years so lightly and manifests so much of the vigor of mind and body that is expected only in younger men. In him is verified the saying of the wise King of Israel, “Happy is the man that findeth wisdom. Length of days is in her right hand and in her left hand are riches and honor.” The Doctor may not be rich in worldly possessions, but they who know him best realize that he 1s rich in what counts for more than the “things that perish.”—Harrisburg Telegraph. Prohibition County Convention. The Prohibition County Convention will be held in Wolf’s Hall, Rockwood, Ps., on Tuesday. Feb. 25, 1908, begin- ning st 10 a. m., for the purpose of sug- gesting candidates for all county of- fices, two candidates for the Legisla- ture and one candidate for Congress, to be voted for at the April primary. Also to select six delegates and six al- ternates to the National Convention, one County Chairman, one Secretary County Committee, and one Treasurer County Committee, and to transact such other business as properly comes before the convention. We invite all voters—without regard to past political affiliations—who be- lieve with us that the liquor traffic is an unnecessary evil, that it breeds crime, promotes poverty, increases taxation and is an enemy of all legiti- mate business enterprises, inasmuch as the money spent over the saloon bars should find its way into legitimate channels of trade for the necessaries and comforts of life. State Chairman David B. McCalmont, of Franklin, will attend the conven- tion and address a mass meeting in Wolf’s Hall in the evening. Prohibitionists from all districts in the county are expected to be present. The Local Option question will be thoroughly discussed, as will also the advisability of nominating two of the Republican Legislative, Local Option, anti-Penrose candidates on the Prohi- bition ticket.
