Last Saturday Jonas Stevanus moved some of his household effects from his residence on Negro Mountain to Coal Run, but before he got all his goods moved, his mountain home went up in smoke. There was no insurance on the house or contents, and the loss is sev- eral hundred dollars. The origin of the fire is unknown to the owner, but it is hinted that some other person or persons know all about it. A DANGEROUS DEADLOCK that sometimes terminates fatally, is the stoppage of liver and bowel funec- tions. To quickly end this condition without disagreeable sensations, Dr. King’s New Life Pills should always be your remedy. Guaranteed absolutely satisfactory in every case or money back, at E. H. Miller's drug store. 25c. 1-1 Will Seek Home in Far West. On Wednesday morning Clarence Loechel and family started for Okla- homa, where they expect to make their future home. They departed from the scenes of their youth with stout hearts and a determination to succeed, and if they keep their health, we feel sure that their fondest hopes will be real- ized. “Go west, young man, and grow up with the country,” is as good advice now as it was when given a generation ago by that great journalist and think- er, llorace Greely. There is greater opportunity in. the West for young men of pluck and in- dustry to succeed than there is here in the crowded East, and much as we re- gretted to see Mr. Loechel and his fair young wife depart from this locality, we wish them all manner of success in the West, and we feel sure that they will never fegret the move. HOW DIPHTHERIA IS TRACTED. One often hears the expression, “My child caught a severe cold which de- veloped into diphtheria,” when the truth was that the cold had simply left the little one particularly susceptible to the wandering diphtheria germ. When Chambérlain’s Cough Remedy is given it quickly cures the cold and lessens the danger of diphtheria or any other germ disease being contracted. About two months ago our baby girl had measles which settled on her lungs and at last resulted in a severe attack of bronchitis. We had two doctors, but no relief was obtained. Everybody thought she would die. 1 went to eight different stores to find a certain remedy which had been recommended to me, and failed to get it, when one of the storekeepers insisted that I try Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy. I did | so and our baby is alive and well to- day.—Geo. W. SPENCE, Holly Springs, N. C. Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy always cures and is pleasant and safe to take. For sale at Miller's Drug. Store. 1-1
