Meyersdale Commercial College Has Failed. Joseph Stotler and Levi Cochrane, two young men from this town who had been attending the Meyersdale Commercial College, returned home yesterday evening and state that the said college has failed and closed its doors. The Meyersdale Commercial College has gone the way of the Meyersdale wooden pin factory, Meyersidale lock factory, Meyersdale steel mill and nu- merous other Meyersdale institutions. Judging from appearances, however, there is a dude and deadbeat factory somewhere in Meyersdale that is working overtime, and there are in- dications that an institution of the same kind is doing a right snug busi- ness in Salisbury. However, both towns have many reliable business firms that keep the wheels of progress and prosperity in motion. SAVED HER SONS LIFE. The happiest mother in the little town of Ava, Mo., Mrs. S. The court heard testimony Tuesday, Thursday and Friday in the equity proceedings instituted by S. P. Maust vs. the Pennsylvania & Maryland Street Railway Company, when a post- ponement until the 25th was agreed to, at which time argument will be heard. Some weeks ago the court made a re- straining order requiring the trolley company to keep off the lands of the plaintiff, who alleges that the defend- ants are trespassers. The defendants claim that Maust is backed by the old Meyersdale & Salisbury Street Rail- way Company. The Pennsylvania & Maryland Company has everything in shape to complete its line between Salisbury and Meyersdale within about two months, unless delayed by legal complications. is Might Have Been a Serious Confla- gration. On Monday evening the members of the Catholic church were having a dance and oyster supper in Hay’s opera house, and in some way a conflagration was started from an oil stove that | threatened to consume the building, | Happily the flames were soon extin- { guished, and little or no damage was | done. With a little more headway, | however, the fire would likely have re- sulted in the most disastrous con- flagration in the history of the town. Several days ago another slight blaze started in the residence of Mrs. Geo. W. Robinson. Just in what manner the fire started, we have not learned, but.the blaze was soon extinguished, and some burned clothing is all the damage reported. ee WORKED LIKE A CHARM. Mr. D. N. Genial Sam Kimmel, than whom no warmer hearted, generous and all- around good fellow ever set out from Salisbury in quest of a fortune in the far west, has been prospecting and working at various mining camps and mineral lands in Idaho and Nevada during the past few years. During his entire time in the various wild and un- developed regions he has been operat- ing in, he has been enjoying life and earning good wages. But to strike a rich claim of his own has been his day and nightly dream for some years, and like a man Edgar Allen Poe describes in one of his poems— - “Gaily bedight, A gallant knight, In sunshine and in shadow Had journeyed long, Singing a son In search of Eldorado.” Well, it now seems as though Sam has found the Eldorado he has been ceaselessly looking for, and all his nu- merour old-time friends who read this article will join in the hope that his fondest dreams and hopes may be realized. Following we reproduce a portion of a letter Sam recently wrote to his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Kimmel, who resides in this town. Judging from its contents, his prospects are exceedingly bright. WELLINGTON, NEVADA, March 3, 1907. DEAR MoTHER :—You will notice that I have changed my address. Welling- ton is about 25 miles from Yerington. up the Walker river, in 8mith Valley. I am here prospecting since the 11th, and have some very promising pros- I am anchored here for the summer, at least. I have secured a third interest in a group of copper claims, and own five other claims my- self that have ledges carrying gold, silver, lead and copper. I am almost certain to make some money, this time, and am willing to chance my time and efforts, this summer. I will send you some of the ore from my claims, later on, when I get more work done. George Warren and I are the discov- erers of this mineral belt, and had the opportunity to get all the claims we wanted, and get what in our judgment are the best. Everyone around here is excited over our discovery, and many claims are located all around us now. We will have no trouble in bounding our claims, I believe, and get a good sum of money. But we will not be ready for a few months, as we intend to do more work on them and develop them all we can, At one place we have 12 feet of cop- per ore, showing on the surface, and have two other fine croppings, but not as large. The ledge is traceable for nearly a mile. and we cover it all with our claims. I have ledges on all my individual claims, but they show more silver and lead than gold and copper. We want to sell our copper claims first, and if they prove good with development, it will help to sell our silver properties. It will take us all this and part of next month to do our location work. The law requires one to remove 240 cubic feet of ground on each ledge or claim. I am boarding at a big sheep ranch, and go out to our claims every morn- ing, and back in the evening, three miles each way. This is the closest place to water. We have a couple of donkeys to pack our tools and water, and we take turns at riding, so we really only walk about three miles a day. This ranch is headquarters for about 40,000 sheep. It is a good place to board, and costs me 75 cents a day. I haven’t had a copy of THE Star since October. I left postage at dif- ferent offices to have them forwarded, but never get any. If you see “Pete” again, have him send the paper to Wellington. Yours affectionately, San. . HOW TO REMAIN YOUNG. To continue young ‘in health and strength, do as Mrs. N. F. Rowan, Me- Donough, Ga., did. She says: “Three bottles of Electric Bitters cured me of chronic liver and stomach trouble, complicated with such an unhealthy condition of the blood that my skin turned red as flannel. I am now prac- tically 20 years younger than before I took Electric Bitters. I can now do all my work with ease and assist in my husband’s store.” Guaranteed at E. H Miller’s Drug. Store. Price 50c. 4-1 Statler’s Body Found. Just as we close our forms to go to press, we learn that the body of Alvin D. Statler, who was drowned yesterday, was found near Romania, and is now being prepared for burial by Under- taker Reich, of Meyersdale. yi Rheumatic sufferers can have a free sample of Dr. Shoop’s Rheumatic Rem- edy with book on Rheumatism by simply writing Dr. Shoop, Racine, Wis.
