A late report from Elkins, W. Va, states that Mr. and Mrs. Wm. H. Keim are the proud parents of “girlie” No. 6. William doesn’t care for boys. Pinesalve acts like a poultice. Best thing in the world for boils, burns, cracked hands, tetter, ete. Sold by Elk Lick Pharmacy. 12-1 The editor went to Philadelphia last Friday, where he remained until 11:08 p. m., Sunday, then returned home via the Pennsylvania railroad, the same route he took in going to the Quaker City. An Iowa doctor committed suicide because he had no patients. In other words, the instinct was so strong that, having no one else to operate upon, he decided to tackle himself, says an ex- change. “John D.s Income; Can You Grasp it?” asks a Pittsburg Leader headline. The Here and There Man admits that if he could, the question of it’s being tainted wouldn't make it look bad.— Johnstown Tribune. Do not be deceived by counterfeits when you buy Witch Hazel Salve. One night is all the time necessary to prove that Pineules is the best remedy indthe world for backache and all kid- ney and bladder troubles. 1f you have rheumatism or any other blood disease, a single dose will give relief. Sold by Elk Lick Pharmacy. 12-1 Josiah Heminger, a well known resi- dent of Slomerset township, died in Lancaster, Pa., last F riday, aged 76 years. Deceased went to Lancaster on a visit, about six weeks ago, and about three weeks ago was stricken by typhoid fever, which proved fatal. John W. Coleman, who for a number of years has been suffering with paral- ysis, received another stroke about =a week ago, since which time he is un- able to speak. Mrs. Dr. Lichty, who was similarly stricken some weeks ago, is, we are glad to say, recovering. Every man owes it to himself and his family to master a trade or profession. Read the display advertisement of the six Morse Schools of Telegraphy. in this issue, and learn how easily a young man or lady may learn telegraphy and be assured a position. 12-1 Mrs. Milton Beachley, one of Meyers- dale’s most estimable women, died yes- terday, of cancer of the stomach. She suffered long and intensely with the dreadful malady, but bore her afilic- tions bravely and patiently. She is survived by ber husband and two sons. You can apply ManZan inside, right where the pain is. It is put up in col- lapsible tubes with nozzle attachment for introducing it. ManZan stops pain instantly and cures all kinds of blind, bleeding, itching and protruding piles. Sold by Elk Lick Pharmacy. 12-1 A negro was complaining recently because his wife asked him for money. “She wants a dollah, fifty cents, a quah- tah er a dime ebbery day, he said. “What does she do with the money?” he was asked. “Doan know,” was the negro’s reply. “Ab ain’t nebber give huh none yit.” It is reported that Rev. Beall, of Hyndman, is teaching school in place of Mr. Kinton, whom he shot and crip- pled for a pheasant while out hunting. Rev. Beall ought to be an expert at teaching the young idea how to shoot. He has had experience, you know.— Cumberland Courier. Backache is never known to those persons who take an occasional dose of Pineules. The value of the resin ob- tained from the Pinetree has long been recognized in the treatment of diseases of the bladder and kidneys. One dose of Pineules will give relief, and one bottle will cure. Sold by Elk Lick 12-1 Mrs. F. O. Livengood, of Somerset, was a wolcome visitor at the editorial mansion, last Saturday. She came over to the old home farm at Boynton to help supervise the annual slaughtering of the fat porkers, and, of course, the editor and family were treated to a liberal quantity of sausage and spare- ribs, which were very delicious. Many thanks. Theodore Cover, of Conemaugh township, has been exhibiting to Johns- town friends a big bundle of fragrant apple blossoms which he had just plucked from a tree in his orchard. Mr. Cover picked the apple crop from this tree about three weeks ago, and immediately it started in to bring forth a new lot of blossoms, just as though the good old summer time was immedi- ately ahead. It is difficult to cure a cough or free yourself from the discomforts of ¢ cold unless you move the bowels. Bee's Laxative Honey and Tar acts on the bowels and drives all cold out of the system. For Croup, Whooping-Cough- Colds, and all Lung and Bronchial af- fections, no remedy is equal to the original Bee’s Laxative Honey and Tar. A Liquid Cold Cure. Sold by Elk Lick Pharmacy. - 12-1 P. M. Wahl and family were visited last Sunday by two of Mrs. Wahl’s sie- ters, one a resident of Berlin, the other of Pittsburg. The visit, however, was anything but a pleasant one, owing to the death of Mr. and Mrs, Wahl’s in- fant son, which occurred on Sunday evening. The child was aged about one year and died of membraneous croup. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. E. S. Johnston, D. D., officiating. Charles, the second son of Silas A. Wagner, and John, a young son of Wm. Wagner, Sr,, are two typhoid fever patients that we forgot to mention last week. They are the two latest victims of the disease reported to THE Stax. It is high time for our health authori- ties to get a chemist or state official here to try to locate the cause of all the typhoid fever in this locality. It is a shame and a crime thatt no effort has yet been made to discover the cause of the epidemic. D. I. Hay, the genial proprietor of Hay's hatel, has recently overhauled his hotel office and made of it a very attractive place. Mr. Hay has decided that the professional hotel office loafer must go, add such fellows will no long- er be permitted to squirt tobacco juice where they please about his house and almost crowd guests out of the place. We see where “Dice” is right, and we wish him success in the new and credit- able order of things. He has been im- posed upon long enough. Last Friday Constable M. D. Thomas took Harry Bjyroads to the County Home, where he should have been taken long ago. The poor fellow is badly crippled and demented, as the result of an accident in childhood; and as he was constantly being teased by men and boys who should have used better sense, Harry became a public nuisance, and when enraged was ac- tually dangerous. The poor fellow will have a much better time of it at the County Home than away from it. Croup is quickly relieved, and Whoop- ing Cough will not “run its course” if you use the original Bee’s Laxative Honey and Tar. This Cough Syrup is different from all others because it acts on the bowels. You can not cure Croup and Whooping Cough until you rid the system of all congestion, by working off the cold through a copious action of the bowels. Bee’s Laxative Honey and Tar does this, and cures all Coughs, Croup, Whooping Cough, ete. No opiates. Sold by Elk Lick Pharmacy. 12-1 J. C. Balliet was in Cumberland, Md., last Saturday, where he had a pleasant visit with the Billmeyer brothers, who have a host of friends in and about Salisbury. When he returned he left on the editor’s desk a very convenient souvenir issued by the Billmeyer Lumber Company. It is a convenient wallet in which to carry important pa- pers, money, etc., but editors use it to carry the “duns” in that they are con- stantly receiving. And it would be just as well to carry some of the “duns” in it that they send to their subscribers and never get enough returns on to pay postage. Our old friend Alfred Wagner was over at Bedford, last week, to appear before the Pension Examining Board. While there he greatly enjoyed a visit with Dr. and Mrs. Americus Enfield, who were both born and reared in this vicinity. Mr. Wagner says he was de- lighted to find the genial doctor’s mother still living, and he had the pleasure of being there on the 8th inst, which was the 90th anniversary of her birth. At the great age of 90 years, Grandma Enfield is still very active in mind and body, says Mr. Wagner, and she does not seem any older than many people do at the age of 70 years. Charles H. Fisher, the prominent book dealer and stationer, had a nar- row escape from accidental death, Sat- urday afternoon. He was attending a special meeting of Town Council in the Municipal building, and was tilting back in a chair when a bullet suddenly crashed through the wall dividing the room from another ome in the rear, The missile splintered a rung in the back of the chair and passed within an inch of Mr. Fisher’s body. It was all over so quickly that none of those present realized the danger. It seems a young son of Police Officer Joy was carelessly handling a 38-caliber revolv- er when it accidentally exploded.— Somerset Herald. In glancing over the election returns of Thayer county, Neb., we note that David Kelso, a former Elk Lick boy who was the Republican candidate for Treasurer of Thayer county, was de- feated in the county and also in his home precinct. His home paper, the Carleton Leader, waged a vigorous fight against David, charging him with using unfair means in gaining his party’s nomination, and urging voters to defeat him at the general election. As to the charges, we know nothing here, but as only one other Republican in that county was defeated at the last election, it would seem that a good many Republicans agreed with the Leader that Mr. Kelso did not deserve election. We are sorry for David, but hereafter he should be good, and not arouse the temper of his home paper. Last Saturday night a number of young men got on the outside of too much booze, and, as is usually the case under such circumstances, profanity, foul talk and fighting ensued. Several arrests were made, one fellow was knocked down by the policeman’s mace, and some of the disturbers were locked up and fined. Other arrests will fcl- low, and at least one of the disturbers had to give bond for his appearance at court, Officer Thomas having sued him for resisting an officer. While we re- gret to see some of our young men constantly getting into trouble, yet they have only themselves to blame. One thing is sure, any man who be- haves himself as a good citizen should behave, never has any trouble with the officers of the law; and whenever you hear a fellow whining about an officer “having it in for him,” or taking up for other fellows that the officers have been having trouble with, there is al- ways something wrong with such a fel- low. “We didn’t do nothing,” is an old cry with fellows that are always hav- ing trouble with the officers of the law, but it is a ery that deceives no one.
