Notice is hereby given that my wife, has left my bed and board without just cause, and owing to said desertion I tract. Persons giving her credit must DELIGHTFUL WESTERN VISIT. Interesting Account of a Recent Trip West by Mr. and Mrs. John J. Keim. Thinking our friends might be inter- ested in our sojourn to the Middle West, I will give a short history of our trip. On the morning of Sept. 5, Mrs. Keim and myself bade farewell to our home folks and left Meyersdale, where we boarded the train, taking the most di- rect route, by way of Chicago. After spending a few hours in the great metropolis of the west, we jour- neyed on by way of the Great Western, to Liscomb, Iowa, where we spent some time with my sister, Mrs. Jefferson Speicher, whom we found in good health. Our next stop was in Grundy county, Towa, where my oldest sister, Mrs, Louis Bockes, who is in her 89th year, resides. To my surprise and great pleasure, I found her an unusually well preserved woman. We also visited Grundy Center at the time of the county fair, and we were much pleased to see the excellent exhibits shown there. That section of the country has wonderful resources. By way of Des Moines to St. Joseph we reached Brown county, Kansas, where we visited many of Mrs. Keim’s relatives, and after a very pleasant time at all the places visited, our next point of interest wae Esbon, Kan., where we visited our children, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Beachy and Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Keim, also our old friends Mr. and Mrs. M. JT. Beachy and Robert Beachy. Esbon is located on the main line of the C. R. I. & P. RB, R., giving it excellent railroad facili- ties. The population is about 500. Great thrift and enterprise is shown, streets paved with an excellent grade of cement, and the entire town, includ- ing homes. beautifully lighted with gas The opera house or town hall, lighted as it is, makes an excellent place for all the amusements the town could de- sire. Owing to the great amount of build- ing done in town and surrounding country, two large lumber yards are | kept eonstantly busy supplying the great demand for building material. A number of beautiful modern homes grace the town. A very artistic school house of six rooms adds much to the good appearance of the place. The immense grain business carried on in this little town, by the two ele- vators, is a great sight. As much as 8,550 bushels of 40c corn is unloaded in one day, which brings dozens of teams to town, and makes a great deal of business. This section of the country is the greatest corn producing country in the United States, also the banner Alfalfa county, having 45000 acres sown. This section feeds more cattle and hogs than any other county in the state. I have seen thousands of cattle and hogs being fattened for the Kansas City market. The Esbon State Bank now has a footing of $158,000. R. 8. Beachy & Company control the largest mercantile business in the town. The climate is mild in these parts, thus far, little sign of frost, and I am told the winters are generally pleasant, with lots of sunshine and very little SNOW. A new idea in a Cough Syrup is ad- vanced in Kennedy's Laxative Honey and Tar. Besides containing Pine Tar, Honey and other valuable remedies, it is rendered Laxative, so that its use insures a prompt and efficient evacua- tion of the bowels. It relaxes the nerv- ous system, and cures all coughs, colds, croup, whooping cough, ete. A red clover blossom and the honey bee is on every bottle of the Original Laxa- children and kind friends and started direct for our old home, where we met a hearty welcome from relatives and friends. J.J. KE. tive Cough Syrup—Kennedy’s Laxative A PRETENSE OF REFORM. The tickets of the two great parties, .| Republican and Democratic, regularly nominated, under the supervision of the authorized persons and established methods, can be safely voted by our Republican and Democratic readers, respectively, if they vote their party tickets straight. Voter, is there good and sufficent reason why you should turn down the regular ticket? Will it benefit you? Will it improve present conditions, lighten your taxes or put more money and prosperity into your hands? What will you or your family gain by not voting the regular ticket from end to end? Several other tickets have been put up, purposely confusing the situation, notably the Orphans’, the Citizens’- Union and Lincoln tickets. So far in the campaign, not one reason—intelli- gent reason has been given by them, to justify a voter in cutting the regular nominees, all of whom are vouched for as worthy, well qualified men. This being true, voter, are you going to cut them simply to please a ceterie of mal- contents? Judged upon their own statements and methods, the opponents of the regular ticket haven’t a square inch of basis in either ethics or equity, to rest their case upon. They assert the regular ticket is not the choice of, and was not put up by “the people,” and ergo, you should not support it. The fact is, it was chosen at aregular primary, by the people’s votes, while the opposing tickets, Orphans’ and Citizens’-Union, were chosen and put Gp by a few men—Ilargely the eandi- dates themselves—in private session, not by a primary and not by votes of the people. Now if the regular Re- publican tigket does not represent “the people,” whom, in all reason, do the Orphans’ and Citizens’-Union tickets represent? If the former represents nothing as to the people, then these latter represent MUCH LESS THAN NOTH- ING. They assert that you should vote against the regular ticket to free your- self from “boss rule,” yet if the putting up of the Republican candidates, last spring, was the fruit of “boss” rule, then the selection of the Orphans’ and Citizens’-Union candidates “out Her- oded Herod” as an example of the most audacious “boss” rule on record.—Con- fluence News. Reveries. To those whose school days are over, we would say, enter your life’s work and stick to it. Do not dodge from one thing to another continually; if you do, you will never amount to anything. Be useful, law-abiding citizens. Try to make a part of the world better by hav- ing lived. Do not make getting mar- ried your chief aim in life or go around hunting some one to fall in love with, but when love comes to you, be sure it is love and not a passionate fancy. Study to make the best of what you have. Too many people fail to use the talents they have because they have not more to put with them. Don’t look for too grand things and deny yourself and family the pleasures you might enjoy, simply because you can’t give them greater ones. The man who gives his family the benefit of a good, convenient, well arranged home, with fruit and flowers, good books and well- chosen periodicals for reading and cul- tivating the mind, who gives each such education as his means will allow, and who is kind and considerate toward those who are in a large degree de- pendent on him for love and protec- tion, has done a good work. 3 When a man gives his hand in mar- riage to a woman, he says by his act among all women, that he has for her a deeper and tenderer affection than for any other human being. At the mar- riage altar he solemnly pledges the continuance of that love until death. . When beauty has faded from her face, the bright flash from her eyes, when age has brought wrinkles to the brow, and sorrow has traced its furrows in the cheeks, the faithful husband’s love is to remain as deep and true as ever. His heart is still to choose his wife among all women, and find in her its truest delight.
