Something that Ought fto;{Interest Salisbury People Who;Have Loeated Elsewhere. Tae STAR has for sale a limited num- ber of very fine pictures of Salisbury, size 22x32 inehes, printed on extra heavy, smooth paper, from a very fine engraving. The sketching was done by T. M. Fowler, of Morrisville, Pa., who is an expert in his line and has been following his business in many differ- ent states of the Union. The picture is very clear and dis- tinct, showing all the streets plainly marked, and those familiar with the town can plainly recognize every build- ing in it. Tbe pictures have sold like “hot cakes” here, and a limited number have been placed with THE Star to supply those at a distance, who may desire them. Every former citizen of Salisbury ought to have one of these fine engrav- ings, as they show the progress the old town has been making, which has been very great in recent years. But we cannot supply them all, and those who apply first will get them. The picture ineludes West Salisbury, the surround- ing landscape and some of the farm houses in the immediate vicinity, also a large number of the principal build- ings printed around the margin of the engraving, from special drawings. Young to the necessary document permitting him to take one of the town’s fair young damsels to the par- son’s and to be united in marriage. Instead of going to see Mr. Young he proceeded to take a little stimulant for his nerves in the form ef Cumberland “firewater,” with the result that he never saw Mr. Young, but came back to Lonaconing and got lost. The guests assembled at the home of the young woman, the parson was present, the table arranged for supper and all in waiting for the prospective groom. After several hours passed and he did not put in an appearance, search was instituted, and Saturday morning he was found in the back yard of the young woman’s home, sleeping peace- fully. He was aroused from his drunk- en stupor and taken in tow by his pros- pective mother-in-law, who declares that she will take care of him until he sobers up enough to have the ceremony performed in regular order.—Lonacon- ing Star. We were delighted to meet Mrs. Dennis Eichnor, of Salt Lake City, Utah, who was in town yesterday with Mrs. W. H. Dill of Meyersdale, for a short visit with old-time friends. Mrs. Eichnor was formerly Miss Lizzie Keim, eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Noah G. Keim, who emigrated to the west from here in 1876. She had her two children with her, a very bright and healthy looking son, and an equal- ly bright and healthy looking daughter. Her husband, the late Dennis Eichnor, formerly of Meyersdale, died suddenly at their Salt Lake City home, over a year ago. He was an able attorney-at- law, and was highly esteemed in the Mormon city, where he had become prominent. Mrs. Eichnor was a school- mate of ours in the. gladsome days of our childhood, and this was her first visit to Salisbury since the family left here in 1876. She came east to visit her sister, who resides in Buffalo, N. Y.. and her uncle and aunt, Dr. and Mrs. T. F. Livengood, of Elizabeth, N. J. On her way home she could not re- sist the temptation to hurriedly visit Meyersdale and Salisbury, and her many friends here regret that she could not remain longer within our gates. Mr. Solomon Snyder has received the sad information that his son, James Albert Snyder, lies hopelessly ill at his home in Hebron, Neb., of bright’s dis- ease. His death is: liable to ensue at any time. Mr. Snyder is Clerk. of the Courts.in Thayer county, and one of the most popular men in that part of the state. He will be 48 years old in September.—Rockwood Gazette. The sick man is one of THE STAR man’s old chums. We used to attend political conventions with him in Ne- braska, where both of us were taking an active interest in politics at the same time. We also attended the He- bron Normal together, and before leav- ing Nebraska the editor was tendered the Republican nomination for County Clerk by acclamation. That was in the fall of 1891, after we had already made arrangements to move to Salis- bury. Our friend Snyder continued in politics out there until he was rewards ed with two good county offices. He first served as Sheriff, and now he is Clerk of the Courts. We are intensely sorry to learn of his dangerous illness. FORCED TO STARVE. B. F. Kimmel has our thanks for a. copy of the Thunder Mountsin News, published at Roose- velt, Idaho, a mining camp town. It is quite an interesting publication, and there seems to be something in the climate out there that inspires adver- tisers to write poetry in telling their wants and asking for patronage. W.J. Burke, an inn keeper, advertises his place as a temperance house, and then he goes on to-explair why it is a tem perance house, in the following poetic way: “We keep no whiskey, beer or gin, We had no chance to have it in; When spring returns and roads are dry We figure on a full supply.” THE DIAMOND CURE. The latest news from Paris, is, that they have discovered a diamond cure for consumption.
