Last Saturday a game of base ball was played by the Hyndman and Salis- bury-Niverton clubs, on the grounds of the latter. Wken the Seventh inning was played, the Hyndman team played the baby act and quit, giving as their excuse that they couldn’t get to Mey- ersdale in time to catch their train if they remained to finish the the game. But the real reason they quit was be- cause their pitcher fagged out and they feared 8 defeat, which would surely have been their lot if they would have finished the game. When the game was stopped, the score stood 5 to 2 in favor of the visitors. On Tuesday, however, our boys got even with the Hyndman aggrega- tion. They went to their town and wiped them up by a score of 7to 1, and as a result, Manager Floyd Morrison is happy. He says histeam made but two errors during the entire game; while Hyndman made practically nothing else. James May, of Boynton, umpir- ed the game, and all his decisions were very fair. ’Rah for Salisbury and Niv- erton. > —— AN OPTIMIST. Old Uncle Finn was a good old chap, But never seemed fer to care a rap, If the sun forgot To rise some day, Just like as not Ole Finn would say: “Oncommon dark, this here we're in, But ’tain’t so bad as it might ’a’ been.” But a big cyclone came ’long one day, An’ the town was wrecked and blowed away, When the storm had passed We turned around And thought at last Ole Finn had found The state o’ things he was buried in About as bad as it might’a’ been. So we dug ’im out of the twisted wreck And lifted a rafter off his neck. He was bruised an’ cut “ And a sight to see; He was ruined, but He says, says he, With 8 weak look 'round and a smashed up grin, -.; “Tain’t half so bad as it might ’a’ been!” But after all it’s the likes 'o Finn Maks this world fit fer livin’ in. ‘When days are drear And skies are dark, It’s good to hear Some ole sage bark, “No see here, soul” with a cheerful grin, “Tain’ half so bad as it might ’a’ been!” B.& 0.
