You ought to try im, Three from the Somerset Standard. Work on the erection of the big steel tipple at Boswell for the Merchants Coal Co., has been temporarily sus- pended, owing to a strike on the part of the mechanics who are doing the work. Pure Food Inspector James Foust, of Altoona, was at Somerset on Wednes- day of last week. He did not bring any suits: against Somerset county dealers, this trip. At the last term of court, in which he had five or six cases, the verdicts were in favor of the mer- chants. Probably the oldest woolen mill in this county is the well known Kantner factory south of Somerset. At present it is conducted by ‘8. H. Kantner & Co.. and they are doing an extensive busi- ness in manufacturing yarns and car- pet. The factory first came into the possession of the Kantner family about 1844, when it was operated by Mr. John F. Kantner, father of the late vener- able John H. Kantner of this borough, who later operated it with his sons for many years. We have been informed that the mill was in operation for thir- ty years prior to 1844. Don’t Start Wrong. Don’t start the summer with a lin- gering eough or cold. We all know what a “summer cold” is. It’s the hardest kind to cure. Often it “hangs on” through the entire season. Takeit in hand right now. A few doses of One Minute Cough Cure will set you right. Sure cure for coughs, colds, croup, grip, bronchitis, all throat and lung troubles. Absolutely safe. Acts at once. Chil- dren like it. “One Minute Cough Cure is the best cough medicine I ever used,” says J. H. Bowles, Groveton, N. H. “I never found anything else that acted so safely and quickly.” E. H. Miller. ul An Intelligent Parrot. A ticket seller in a theater once own- ed a parrot that was quick in learning to repeat phrases he heard. The ticket man went to the country for his sum- mer holiday and took the parrot. One day the bird got out of the cage and disappeared. The owner searched about for him and finally toward eve- ning found him, despoiled of half his feathers, sitting fur out on the limb of a tree, while a dozen crows were peck- ing at him whenever they could get a chance. All this time the parrot, with his back humped up, was edging away from the crows and constantly ex- claiming, in imitation of his master, “One at a time, gentlemen; one at a time.”—Clicago Daily News. Like a Drowning Man. “Five years ago a disease the doctors called dyspepsia took such hold of me that I could scarcely go,” writes Geo. S. Marsh, well known. attorney of No- cona, Tex. I took quantities of pep- sin and other medicines, but nothing helped me. Ax a drowning man grabs at a straw, I grabbed at Kodol. 1 felt an improvement at once, and after a few bottles am sound und well.” Ko- dol is the only preparation which ex- actly reproduces the natural digestive juices and consequently is the only one which digests any good food and cures any form of stomach trouble. E. H Miller. Giving Vent to His Spleen. The Somerset Herald gave vent to the spleen of its editor again, last week, against Judge Francis J. Kooser, whom he has been waging a losing fight against for a number of years. ile undertakes to criticise the Judge for presiding at the triennial convention of the school directors, even after it was the expressed will of a large ma- jority of the directors that he should do so. Although there is no good reason why a judge should not preside at a meeting of school directors, Judge Kooser submitted to the use or his name only after he was assured that no other candidate would be placed in nomination against him. It was the desire of a large number of the direct- ors to conduct the business of the con- vention as rapidly as possible, and for that reason he was selected on account of his familiarity with the duties of a presiding officer. The nomination of Mr. Will was probably as great a sur- | prise to the Judge as Mr. Will’s defeat | was to the persons who set him up as a candidate in opposition to Judge Koos- er.—Somerset Standard. at en Dangerous If Neglected, Burns, cuts and other wounds often fail to heal properly if neglected, and become troublesome sores. DeWitt’s Witch Hazel Salve prevents such con- sequences. Xven where delay has ag- gravated the injury, DeWitt’s Witch Hazel Salve effects a cure. “I had a running sore on my leg, thirty years,” says H. C. Hartly, Yankeetown, Ind. “After using many remedies, I tried DeWitt’s Witch Hazel Salve. A few boxes healed the sore.” Cures all skin diseases. Piles yield to it at once. Be- ware of counterfeits.
