For some time we have been subject to seiges of the ‘‘blues,” and every attack has proven to be more severe than the one preceding it. Itis indeed a strange disease, if it can be called a dis: ease, and we believe it can. The “blues” give a man an aching heart and a weary, tired brain, but there are certain easy cures for the disease. Thesurest curein our case is a good, social chat with friends who are in a happy mood and carry sun- shine in their faces; and oh, how good a fellow feels when a littlesunshine pene- trates the darkness—the darkness thrice blacker than night that always comes with the blues! Mr. and Mrs. Livengood called at our sanctum this afternoon for a social chat, and somehow their kind words of encouragement and their genial countenances made us feel good, and we feel pretty good ever since. ‘‘Give us lib- erty or give us death.” but do not give us the “blues’—the’ heart-piercing, brain- grinding “blues.” Mr. Samuel L.
