THE STANDARO HJSTORY OF THE GRA N D ARMY. The greatest Work on the War. Universally endorsed by amy of ficers and the press, THE AUTHOR SAYS : ' "I design in this volume to record what that Ar my did and suffered ID ten campaigns and two score battles. I shall have to celebrate the unswerving loyalty of this army, that oftimes when the tool of military c< hesion failed, held it, unshaken of fortune, to a duty self-impoted. • I shall have to follow it through a checkered ex perience, in a tale commingled of great misfortunes, great tollies and great glories ; hut from first to last it will appear that, amid m .ny buffets of fortunes, through --winter and rough weather," the Army of the Potomac never gave np but made a good fight, and finally reached the goal Of this drama there will be no other hern than the Army of the Potomac itself; for it would seem that in this war of the People it wasdecreed there should arise no imperial presence to beco ue the central fig ure and cynosure of men's eyes. Napoleon, in an outburst of haughty eloquence, exclaims that in the great armies nl history tne Commander was every thing. This proud apotheosis has no a pplieation for the Army of the Potomac. And one must think - seeing it never had a great, and generally had med iocre commanders—it w s that it might be said, that wh revi rit won it owed not to genius, lut bought with its blood." This is the only History of the "Grand Army," and no one who has borne a part in its conflicts, or is interested in its grand achievements, should be without it. ImUsiMsh, Au£. 14 '4 Scroftila, or King's Evil, is a constitutional disease, a corruption of tha blood, by which this fluid becomes vitiated, weak, and poor. Being in the circulation, it pervades the whole body, and may burst out in disease on any part of it. No organ is free from its attacks, nor is there one which it may not destroy. The scrofulous taint is variously caused by mercurial disease, low living, dis ordered or unhealthy food, impure air, filtk and filthy habits, the depressing vices, and, above all, by the venereal infection. Whafe ever be its origin, it is hereditary in the con stitution, descending " from parents to childMt unto the third and fourth generation ; " indesd, it seems to be the rod of Him who ssys, M I will visit the iniquities of the fathers upas their children." Its effects commence by deposition from tha blood of corrupt or ulcerous matter, which, in the lungs, liver, and internal organs, is termed, tubercles; in the glands, swellings; and oat the surface, eruptions or sores. This foul cor ruption , which genders in the blood, depresses the energies of life, so that scrofulous constitu tions not only suffer from scrofulous com plaints, but they have far less power to with stand the attacks of other diseases; consa quently vast numbers perish by disorders which, although not scrofulous in their nature, are still rendered fatal by tliis taint in tha system. Most of the consumption which de cimates the human family has its origin directly in this scrofulous contamination ; and many destructive diseases of the liver, kidneys, brain, and, indeed, of all the organs, arise from at are aggravated by the 6ame cause. One quarter of all our people are scrofulous ). their persons are invaded by this lurking in fection, and their health is undermined by it. To cleanse it from the system we must renovat# the blood by an alterative medicine, and m* vigorate it by healthy food and exercise# Such a medicine we supply in AVER'S Compound Extract of Sarsaparilla, the most effectual remedy which the medical skill of our times can devise for this every where prevailing and fatal malady. It is com bined from the most active rcmedials that havs been discovered for the expurgation of this foul disorder from the blood, and the rescue of ths system from its destructive consequences. Hence it should be employed for the cure of not only Scrofula, but also those other affeo tions which arise from it, such as ERUPTITB and SKIN DISEASES, ST. ANTHONY'S Fia, ROSE, or ERYSIPELAS, PIMPLES, PVIMM, BLOTCHES, BLAINS and BOILS,TU MORS, TETTIB and SALT RHEUM, SCAI.D HEAD, RINGWORM, RHEUMATISM, SYPHILITIC and MERCURIAL DIS EASES, DROPSY, DYSPEPSIA, DEHILITY, and, indeed, ALL COMPLAINTS ARISING PROM VITIA TED OR IMPURE BLOOD. The popular belief in " impurity of the blood " is founded in truth, for scrofula is a degeneration of the blood. The particular purpose and virtue of this Sarsapa rilla is to purify and regenerate this vital fluid, without which sound health is impossible iu contaminated constitutions. AYER'S Ague Cure, FOR THE SPEEDY CURE OF Intermittent Fever, or Fever and Agt Remittent Fever, Chill Fever, Dumh Ague, Periodical Headache, or Billons Headache, and Bilious Fevers, indeed for the whole class of diseases originat ing in hlliary derangement, canted by the Malaria of Miasmatic Countries. \Ye are enabled here to offer the community t remedy which, while it cures the above complaints with certainty, is still perfectly harmless in any quantity. Such a remedy is invaluable in districts where these afflicting disorders prevail. This "CURE" expels the miasmatic poison of FSVBR AND AGUE from the system, and prevents the de velopment of the disease, if taken on the first ap proach of its premonitory symptoms. It is not only the best remedy ever yet discovered for this clasa of complaints, but also the cheapest. The large quantity we supply for a dollar brings it within the reach of every body ; and in bilious districts, where FEVER AND AGUE prevails, every body should have it and use it freely both for cure and protec tion. A great superiority of this remedy over any other ever discovered for the speedy and certain cure of Intermittcnts is that it contains no Quinine or mineral, consequently it produces no quinism or other injurious effects whatever upon the constitu tion. Those cured by it are left as healthy as if they had never had the disease. lever and Ague is not alone the consequence of the miasmatic poison. A great variety of disor ders arise from its irritation, among which are Heuralgia, Rheumatism, Gout, IJeaaache, Blind ness, Toothache, Earache, Catarrh, Asthma, Pal. pitation, Painful Affection of the Spleen, Hyster ics, Pain in the Boxoi ls, Coke, Paralysis and De rangement of the Stomach, all of which, when originating in this cause, put on the intermittent type, or become periodical. This " CURE " expel# the poison from the blood, and consequently cures | them all alike. It is an invaluable protection to immigrants and persons travelling or temporarily residing in the malarious districts. If taken occa sionally or daily while exposed to the infection, that will be excreted from the system, and cannot accumulate in sufficient quantity to ripen into dis ease. Hence it is even more valuable for protec tion than cure, and few will ever suffer from Inter mittents if they avail themselves of the protection this remedy affords. Prepared by Dr. J. C.
