Drowned.—Five persons were drowned near tb c
outlet of the Gravel pond in Abington Township, on
Saturday last, by tho sinking of a boat in which
they were riding at tho time. Four of these unfortu
nate persons wero children of Loren Dewey Esq
three daughters and one son, aged from 9 to 22 voars.
The fifth, was neice—a young lady on a visit to hi B
house, from Vermont. Mr Murry, a resident near
the pond was within sight, at the time of this terrible
accident, and tbough they were near the shore, ow
ing to his crippled condition, he was unable to relieve
them. They were buried on Sunday last—several
thousand persons attending the funeral, which is rep
resented by those in attendance to have been one of
the most solemn occasions ever witnessed by them,

ton, aged 67 years.
The subjectof the above notice—the father of Geo
P. Tutton of this place, was born in Glastonbury,
Somersetshire Co., England, and migrated to the
United States in IS3O, to escape the tyranical exac
tions of a monarchial Government, and enjoy here
unreetria ncd freedom in religious and political opin
ion. lie was possessed of rare musical talents and
occupied much of his tune durriug many years.in the
manufacture of musical instruments. By his h : gb
social qualities, correct business habits, strict hcoes
ty and integrity, he acquired the eonfflonco of ail
who knew him, and held among them various po
sitions of honor and trust. lie was a prominent and
highly esteemed member of the Masonic frater
nity ; and was buried with the solemn and impres
sive rites of that order At. aged and infirm wife
survives him; and with her now widely separated fam
ily will deeply feel hfs loss.
