The French steamer Thomas sank
in Lisbon harbor yesterday, and nine
persons were drowned.

the B. & O. railroad yesterday at Chit

The war department has authorized
General Chaffee to expend $20,000 to
build a military road in the Island of
Mindanao, P. I. .
The cruiser Des Moines was launch

Cholera Raging In Philippines.
Washington, Sept 23. Manila pa

provinces of the Philippines. While
some Americans are afflicted, the na
