annually, nor more than (2000. In
counties having 1,100 square miles, or
a school term exceeding seven and a
half mouths, the -alary shall not be
less than $1600,

A Idol's Wager.
Samuel Smith, a young man of 22,
living at ( apehart, V. Ya., on a wager
recently attempted to eat two dozen
hard-boiled eggs. The wager was
made hi a saloon where there was an
abundant supply of eggs ready. Smith
began the task with avidity and soon
finished a dozen, The effort to swal
low became more difficult and when
twenty-two eggs had been eaten he
gave up. Half an hour later, in spite
of a doctor's efforts, Smith was death
