William J. Jackman, editor of the
Democrat and Register, of Miftiji
town, for thirty years, died at his
home in that place Monday evening .
Mr. Jackman had been in failing
health for some time and the editorial
management of the newspaper has
been done by his daughter, Mis. J,
Gertrude Jackman. Deceased was a
veteran of the civil war, having been
a member of Company A, First Penn
sylvania Cavlary. He is survival by
his wife and three daughters.

Numerous inquiries have lieen
made as to what action was taken in
the last Legislature in regard to the
scalp law. To these inquiries we an
swer, no action was had on this mat
ter at all in the last Legislature. The
whole trouble arises from a decision
of one of the courts to the effect that
the scalp law was unconstitutional,
and after this decision the County
Commissioners refused to pay bounty
on s-alv.
