In glancing over tie pages of the September number of the Cosmo politan, we find an article entitled, "The Ancient Capital of Cuba," written by the rady pen of John T. Hyatt, of Lewisbnrg vice consul from the United States to Cuba. Mr. Hyatt was at Bucknell when the writer was at college and the author then had the reputatiou of being one of the beet oratora in the 'Varsity. Now, he comes to the front with an eight page article in one of the leading magazines of the country. It is illustrated with nine engravings representing the scenes about the capital of the down-trodden Cubans. Tho article evinces extraordinary ability and discloses in a gnat degree tho excellent diction of the author. The descriptions are clear, con ci and accurate. Tho author very inirmfulv describes the industrial nd social conditions of tho iuhab it.nii nf iulnml that has been made famous by Columbus on his second voyage to tho new world. We con gratulate Mr. Hyatt on his most ex cellent article, which launches him on a successful voyage of the liter ary stream. kicks' Gn-at Work. i-i m iii,M. the eMrliratod. utorm proph li now a nouwiimu unm His wonaonui PL of ft.
