Mr. Habtkr : On my trip through Northern Pennsylvania, I conclud ed to visit the fiiinoiiH "Harvey's Luke," I left "Wyoming, Luzerne county, Pa., on Saturday evening on the Harvey Lake 11. 11., n ride of about 17 inilcH brought us here. After leaving the train neveral Htcam frn awaited us to take UR to the hotels. This is a ride of about four mileH over the lake. I am stopping at the Lake Grove Houhc, Mr. W. L. llrice proprietor, a jolly, good hearted fellow. The air is very cool here and there is a heavy breeze all the time. The water in Home places is about HO to 1K) feet deep. There is upleudid lishing here, the waters abound in pickerel, bass, cat fish, .Vc. There are many pleasure seekers here, and early on Sabbath morning carriages tilled with people came in until the hotel and park was crowd ed, many parties from Wilkesbarre, Philadelphia, Pittston &c, are camping here. This is one of the finest Summer Resorts in the State. Near this place is the famous Ice Cave, where you can enter during any time of the year and find ice free.ing. It is considered quite a curiosity. There is a beautiful driving road around the lake, mak ing a drive of about ten miles. Let all who enjoy a trip during the sum mer visit Harvey's lake. S. li. Scihvk. To Succeed at Housekeeping. The original and divine idea f married life is that of a family home over which the husband and wife ulnill preside : and so housekeeping is the normal condition of such a life. How ever, a normal condition may be rendered a failure by mis management or the perverseness of those who have a part therein. In this world anything good may be perverted, and the greatest blessings changed into a curse. And ho house keeping, the proper thing for all married people, may be made a fail ure in given instances. It cannot be a failure on the whole unless all family life shall prove to be a fail ure. Marriage without housekeeping is it hybrid of modern invention, which iK about equal to life without a home. It is true many married peo ple board and claim to find pleasure th rein, but that shows an abnor mal taste which has grown up through luck of knowledge of any thing better. J tit. then, it cannot be denied that some wives are unfit to preside over a home. They do not know how to make good bread, or prop erly broil a beefsteak, or put to gether the ingredients of a pudding, and so their cooking upsets and de ranges the digestive organs, breeds dyspepsia and biliousness, and lays the foundation for making the bus band a sinner beyond the power of divino grace to prevent it. There is also a wastefulness that spends money to no profit in the line of comfort, and a luck of tidiness which destroys all attractiveness of home surroundings. Such housekeeping is unquestionably a failure, and a failure often because the wife was never taught or trained in better ways. The real difficulty dates back to a former generation and, .i . , . inereiore, eannoi ue corrcctcil in the present. Hut there is no reason why this hick of training should go dawn to curse the next generation. All girls may be trained and should be trained by. skillful teachers in all the arts of housekeeping. Baby Carriages Free on the Pennsylvania Railroad. The Pennsylvania llailroad Com pany has issued instructions to all baggage agents and baggage masters on the system east of Pittsburg! aim r.rie 10 receive ana carry nee of cost in baggage cars baby car riages, when accompanied by their owners. This is a concession in favor of the children which their parents will heartily appreciate ; and it is but another manifestation of the constant endeavor of the company to make the road attractive to everybody.
