He was baptised in Infancy by Rev. George Lochuian. Ills instructions beyond a common school education were received from his father, In view of entering the ministry. On the lltli of November, 1833 be preached his Qrst sermon at little Mohonoy. Dur ing that fall and winter he preachod for bis father different times. In 1833 he was married to Mary Sophia Young, In Sunbury. In 1831 he ac cepted a call from Little Mohonoy where he preached as a student, until 1838. During the same time he also preached for a small oongregatlon at Holland Run, or Conrad's Sohool house. Iu 1833 he preached at lies ler's church, Kratzervllle, where be continued to preach for many years. In 1830 he collected a small congre gation at Dr. Hottenstein's, which he served iu connection with llessler's. In 1839 he accepted a call from 8 con gregations in Union county (now Snyder), viz : Blackoak Ridge, Hea verdam and Ilasslnger's, which were to form a charge In oounection with llessler's church. At the meetlmr of tlie Penn'a Synod In Philadelphia In 1834 he was licensed, having preached prior to this as a student under his father. On the 80th of August he moved his family near Middleburgh, where he lived 20 months and then moved luto Middleburgh were he re sided until his death. In May 2.'. 1831) he wus ordained at AIIentowii. On Oct. 2S, he also becamo pastor at Laureltou, Union couuty, and on the same day he commenced preaching In Centreville. He now served seven congregations.
